The SUV sped along the highway, quickly entering the grounds of the old Nelson family estate. The black vehicle roared past the grand front gates and wound its way up the mountain road toward the pristine cemetery at the peak, finally parking outside the burial grounds.
Clutching a bouquet of white chrysanthemums, Emmy followed James up the stone steps to Mrs. Nelson's grave. The headstone was spotless, completely free of fallen leaves, clearly tended to on a regular basis. Emmy bent down and placed the flowers beside the marker. Looking at the grandmother's kind, smiling face etched into the stone, she slowly dropped to her knees.
"Grandma, I am so sorry," Emmy whispered. "I failed to do what you asked of me."
Before her passing, Mrs. Nelson had left Emmy a letter pleading with her to stop James from seeking revenge. That letter had placed Emmy in an impossible dilemma, even causing her to fall severely ill with a fever. But fate had played a cruel trick, leaving her with amnesia. Without her memories, she had simply followed her instincts to love and support him, inadvertently making a choice that completely violated the older woman's dying wish. Instead of stopping his path of vengeance, she had become his most steadfast ally. Now that she remembered everything, it was too late to turn back.
Tears welled in Emmy's eyes. She placed her hands flat against the ground and bowed her head three times in a deep sign of respect. When she looked up again, her gaze was filled with absolute resolve.
"Grandma, I know I broke my promise," she said steadily. "But please rest assured. Since I have chosen this path, I will walk it with him to the very end. I will stand by James and protect your life's work. I swear the Nelson Corporation will never collapse, and he will never become the sinner of the Nelson family."
After paying their respects, the couple walked back down from the cemetery and prepared to get into their car. Suddenly, a Rolls-Royce glided to a stop right beside them. The door swung open, and a massive Alaskan Malamute bounded out, followed closely by two familiar figures.
"James," Tyler called out, approaching with a tone of casual familiarity as if no bad blood existed between them. "Since you are already at the doorstep, why not come inside for a bit?"
James narrowed his dark eyes and let out a sharp, cold scoff. "You seem to have a lot of free time today, Tyler."
Tyler sighed helplessly, offering a broad, tolerant smile. "I was worried that if I just sent someone to invite you, you would think I lacked sincerity. We are family, after all. It makes no sense to reach the front door and not come home."
Beside him, Isabel unclipped the dog's leash. She patted the Malamute's head affectionately. "Go on, go play," she said in a gentle voice, watching the large dog sprint happily onto the nearby lawn. She then turned her warm smile toward Emmy. "Emmy, it has been so long since you visited. Why don't you and James come into the old house for a cup of tea and relax for a while?"
