Lounging on the spacious leather sofa in the cabin, James sat dressed in a pristine suit, his long legs casually crossed. He held a tablet in his large, elegant hands, swiping across the screen with a relaxed demeanor. A steaming cup of black coffee sat on the mahogany table in front of him.
Emmy froze in her tracks, blurting out in astonishment, "What are you doing here?"
Standing nearby, his assistant Keaton immediately turned around and greeted her with a warm smile. "Ma'am, you have arrived." Eager to take credit on his boss's behalf, Keaton took her bag and explained, "Mr. Nelson came here first thing this morning. He insisted on coordinating all his work before boarding so he could sit here and wait for you."
James casually tossed the tablet onto the table and lifted his gaze to Emmy, his lips parting slightly. "This time, I am flying abroad with you."
Emmy's heart skipped a beat as a massive wave of joy washed over her. When she didn't see him at the castle, she assumed he couldn't bear the pain of parting. She thought he had left early to avoid the heartbreak of seeing her go. Never in her wildest dreams did she expect him to be sitting here on the private jet, preparing to give her such a wonderful surprise.
Her nose stung with emotion. Without a second thought, she ran over and threw herself into his arms. "Why didn't you tell me beforehand?" she asked, her arms wrapped tightly around his neck, her voice laced with uncontrollable delight and a hint of playful reproach.
James smoothly caught her by the waist, pulling her flush against his chest. He raised an eyebrow, his deep voice carrying a touch of roguish affection. "If I told you beforehand, it wouldn't be a surprise, would it?"
Resting against his chest, Emmy felt her heart overflowing with sweetness. She had to admit, she was thoroughly surprised. The heavy sorrow of leaving Joey and Dolly was instantly lightened by his presence. Suddenly remembering something, she looked up at him. "But... you left in such a hurry this morning, you didn't even say goodbye to Joey and Dolly."
"I don't like saying goodbye to them." His tone was casual, yet carried an undeniable, steadfast strength. "After all, I am coming back."
