On the beach, the howling wind carried the pungent stench of heavy oil and salty seawater. James stood shirtless, his lean, muscular upper body glistening with coarse sweat and sand. His explosive muscle lines radiated a wild, dangerous energy under the scorching sun. Right now, his dark eyes, sharp as a hawk's, were locked onto the barren hill a mile away. He stared for a long time, so long that the noisy clamor of the cargo loaders around him seemed completely blocked out by the sea breeze.
Eventually, a heavily armed mercenary walked over, following James's gaze with curious eyes. "What are you looking at, Mr. Nelson?" The mercenary couldn't help but urge him on. "The boss wants us to finish up here and head back quickly. Tomorrow is the big day you officially join the family!"
James withdrew his gaze, his voice cold and raspy. "It's not safe here. We need to speed things up and pull out."
Drawing on years of instinct forged on the bleeding edge of survival as an elite soldier, he was certain someone was behind that hill. And they had already been targeted by countless unseen eyes. As for who it was, he couldn't tell without binoculars. Relying solely on intuition, he instinctively wanted to evacuate this fully exposed coastline as soon as possible.
Hearing this, the mercenary let out a scoffing laugh. "This is the Nelia Caleba Delta. This entire territory belongs to our boss. Let alone people, even rogue missiles wouldn't dare fly over here." He patted James's hard shoulder, his eyes filled with mockery. "How could it not be safe? I think you've been on the run for so long you've developed paranoia."
James furrowed his brow, his gaze instantly turning as cold as ice. He ignored the mockery, his eyes landing on the high-powered binoculars hanging against the mercenary's chest. "Let me borrow those."
The mercenary immediately clutched the binoculars, looking defensive. "No way. What are you trying to pull now? The boss gave strict orders. To keep you from causing trouble, I can lend you clothes, but you aren't allowed to touch anything else!"
