Grandpa Carter’s face fell, his tone sharp. “You better have a good reason for dragging us all here like this. This had better be something serious.”
Emmy nodded right away, her attitude humble and respectful.
“I know how busy you all are, but there’s something you need to know as soon as possible.”
She looked at each of the three elders, her voice sincere.
“When my grandfather started Starlight Corporation, he couldn’t have done it without you. All of you built this company together. He trusted you more than anyone.”
The tension in the room eased a little at her words.
But then Emmy’s voice dropped, chilling the air.
“This morning, I found out something awful. My grandfather’s lung cancer—it wasn’t natural. Someone did this to him. And the next targets could be you, Grandpa Buckley, Grandpa Carter, and you, Mr. Hart.”
“There’s no point in just talking. I want you to see something for yourselves.”
She reached out, moved the vase from the center of the table, and set her laptop down. With a tap, the video began to play.
The screen flickered with grainy surveillance footage.
At first, the three elders looked confused. But soon, shock washed over their faces, draining all the color away. By the end, their expressions had hardened into something close to outrage and disbelief.
Suddenly, Grandpa Buckley clutched his chest and started coughing hard.
“Grandpa Buckley!” Emmy rushed over and gently rubbed his back.
He waved her off, insisting he was fine, but his eyes never left the screen, now red and full of pain.
The video ended, leaving the room in dead silence.
Mr. Hart was the first to react. He slammed his fist on the table with a heavy thud, his voice low and shaking with anger. “That bastard! That monster!”
Emmy straightened, bowing a little to the three elders. Her voice was gentle but firm.
“Mr. Hart, Cooper’s trial starts next Monday. I’ll hand over this evidence and everything else we’ve found to the judge.”
She paused, meeting each elder’s eyes.
“I asked you here today not just to explain how my grandfather really died, but to warn you all. Cooper isn’t going to sit back before the trial. I’m afraid you could be in danger.”
The three men looked back at the frozen frame on the laptop.
In the video, a glamorous woman was whispering in Cooper’s ear. He’d looked tense and worried, but after listening to her, his whole face relaxed. A cold, confident smile appeared on his lips.
It was the look of someone who thought he’d outsmarted everyone.
All three elders felt a chill run straight through them.

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
