Teresa answered without thinking, “Two. Why do you ask?”
Emmy’s eyes flicked back to James, her expression puzzled.
“But just now, even though Grandma mixed people up, she still called him… the third one.”
“So shouldn’t there be at least three brothers?”
Teresa paused, surprised.
James’s gaze suddenly darkened, deep and intense as he locked eyes with Emmy.
“Maybe… the madam just got mixed up?” Teresa guessed. “Or maybe he’s from a different branch of the Nelson family? Like her second son’s kid?”
She launched into the family gossip she’d picked up over the years.
“The Nelson family is run by Mrs. Nelson’s oldest son now. He’s ruthless. Back in the day, he managed to send all his siblings overseas. These days, he’s the only one really in charge.”
“He’s got two sons—Tyler, the older one, and Jamie, the younger. I’ve heard the two brothers actually get along pretty well.”
Teresa let out a sigh.
“Look at that. Mrs. Nelson is so sick, but not a single child or grandchild is with her. Families like that… they can be so cold.”
She didn’t notice the storm brewing in James’s eyes behind her.
Emmy spoke up again. “Mom, what’s Jamie like? Do you know anything about him and Isabel?”
“Jamie…” Teresa thought for a second. “I only heard that he used to be wild, totally out of control, always getting into trouble. But lately, he’s calmed down a lot. He’s become pretty mysterious, hardly ever shows up anywhere.”
“As for him and Isabel, I really don’t know.”
She seemed to remember something and pointed at Andrew, who had walked a little ahead of them.
“But you could ask him. The Aldridge family is related to the Summer family by marriage. He probably knows more than I do.”
Emmy was about to say something when Andrew slowed his steps and turned around with a warm smile.
“What’s up? You’ve been so quiet and moody.”
James instantly took her hand in his, his thumb brushing gently across her skin. He lowered his eyes to meet hers, giving her a small, crooked smile. His voice was soft.
“It’s nothing.”
“I just didn’t have anything to add to your conversation.”
Emmy didn’t buy it. She stared straight into his eyes, searching for the truth.
He looked back at her, the gloom in his gaze starting to fade, his mouth curving into a gentle, affectionate smile. He bent down, his voice low in her ear.
“Really, I’m fine. Don’t overthink it.”
His warm breath sent a tingle down her neck, making her shiver.
Emmy’s cheeks flushed. Once she was sure he was okay, she held onto his arm and walked on, feeling at ease.

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
