Cadence looked genuinely surprised to see her. She was carrying a file folder and her eyes landed right on Emmy.
“Mrs. Nelson, could you wait a minute? I’d like to talk for a bit.”
Emmy stopped and nodded. “Sure, I’ll wait for you in the garden, Cadence.”
It didn’t take long before Cadence finished up her business and came outside. She got straight to the point.
“That mysterious person at Nelson Corporation who’s been nailing all the big projects lately... that’s you, isn’t it?”
Emmy met her gaze, calm and honest. “Yes.”
Cadence raised her eyebrows, a flicker of surprise in her eyes. “You really do have a sharp business mind.” She paused, then added, “But why is Starlight Corporation... not doing as well?”
Emmy couldn’t help but smile. She hadn’t expected Cadence to ask so directly, but honestly, she liked it. There was no need for small talk or pretending. It was refreshing.
“You flatter me, Cadence,” Emmy said, her voice open. “I don’t actually think I’m that clever. Those recent projects were just a stroke of luck, and I happened to catch Nelson Corporation’s momentum at the right time.”
She shifted gears, her tone steady. “As for Starlight Corporation, for one, it’s just not big enough to handle investments on the same scale. And also, the agricultural project I invested in already pushed Starlight’s stock price up. We’re planning to expand our factories now. I can’t say Starlight will ever reach Nelson’s level, but I do believe we’ll be able to outpace our rivals soon.”
Cadence listened, nodding slowly, though it was clear she didn’t buy the whole story. “Mrs. Nelson, you’re being modest.”
Her eyes grew sharper. “If it’s only luck, luck runs out eventually. Right now, you’re the person every Nelson Corporation shareholder wants to meet. In less than a month, you’ve nearly doubled the value of your ten percent stake, and your projects are still gaining ground.”
She smiled, just a little. “I’m really looking forward to seeing what you’ll do for Nelson Corporation in the next few months.”
Emmy’s hand came to rest on her belly. Meeting Cadence’s eyes, she spoke with quiet determination.
The teacher handling her registration looked at her with a kind of gentle regret.
“Emmy, you’re so talented. Why...?” She hesitated, then just sighed. “What a shame. Once you’re a mom, it’s so hard to throw yourself into research the way you used to.”
Emmy only smiled and didn’t argue.
After leaving Capital College, she made her way to Pepper Estate. Dominic was out in the yard, fussing over his plants. When he saw her walking in with her belly leading the way, his eyes didn’t show worry at all. Instead, they sparkled with delight.
“Well, look who’s here.”
Emmy walked over, one hand on her lower back, and asked with a curious smile, “Master, aren’t you worried that once I have these babies, my research days will be over?”

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
