Dominic set down his little trowel and shot her a look. “You weren’t exactly making headlines in the research world before those two little ones came along.”
Emmy couldn’t help but fall silent for a second. That was her mentor, alright. Still so blunt it almost made her laugh.
But Dominic chuckled, his eyes twinkling with real pride and hope. “Don’t get defensive. You always had talent, but you were missing something. You used to float through life without really landing anywhere.”
He nodded at her, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth. “But look at what you’ve accomplished since then. Infinity. The AI prosthetic. Either one of those would be enough to shake up the industry.”
“If you ask me, those twins are your good luck charm. They’re here to bring you fortune.”
There was a calm wisdom in his voice, the kind that comes from seeing a lot of life. “Take Krystina for example. Before she had Ollie, her work was ordinary. After Ollie, in just four years, everyone’s looking at her with new respect because of the teams she’s led.”
“So,” Dominic wiped his hands clean, “forget what anyone else thinks. They only see a mother giving something up. I see a mother who’s creating something new.”
“This world always needs fresh blood. Not just new faces, but new ways of thinking, new perspectives. Becoming a mother will only make you stronger.”
Emmy felt something warm settle in her chest. She’d never really cared about what people outside thought, but to have her mentor’s understanding and support felt like the sun breaking through the clouds. All her worries started to melt away.
“Thank you, Master.”
Dominic waved her off. “No need for that. Now get to work. Your grad thesis is going to be on this AI prosthetic. I want you to really dig deep.”
Emmy nodded, but a little uncertainty crept in. “Master, do I need to form a team for this project?”
Dominic looked at her like she’d just told a joke. “Why? You don’t think you can handle it alone?”
Emmy was caught off guard.
When she snapped back, she realized she’d made a mess of her code. With a sigh, she held down the delete key, erasing all the mistakes.
Right then, the study door burst open from the outside, no knock or warning. For a split second, Emmy’s heart skipped a beat. She thought it might be James.
She looked up, only to see Danny standing there. Disappointment flickered through her eyes.
“Ms. Lincoln! Something terrible’s happened!”
Emmy frowned. “What is it?”
“The new energy project Mr. Carter was working on with Summer Inc. just blew up! Starlight Corporation’s stock price lost over a billion dollars in minutes. And there was an accident. Two people died!”

What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
I enjoy reading this. I like that the storyline isn’t drawn out and moves on. I also appreciate chapters being added almost everyday, thank you....
