Tyler tapped his fingers on the armrest of his wheelchair, the sound dull yet steady. His tone stayed calm. “He can’t die.”
Isabel looked at him like he’d lost his mind. “Why not?!”
She pressed on, her voice rising. “You really think he’ll just let you go? You’re the one who worked with Dean from the very start! I helped get Emmy out of the hospital for you!”
Tyler’s lips twitched with a hint of a smile. The girl he’d loved for so long was no longer so innocent. She had learned to hide her feelings, her eyes sharp and calculating now, hardened by hate. But even so, his heart, which had beat for her for over ten years, still raced for her. If anything, this new version of her was even more irresistible.
He spoke, almost gently. “Because of my grandmother.”
“She left a rule behind. My shares in Nelson Corporation are tied to his. Whatever happens to him happens to me.”
“If anything ever happens to him, the board takes my shares away. Instantly.”
Isabel’s eyes went wide. In her mind, she cursed that old woman. On the outside, she forced herself to stay calm. “But we can’t just let him come back! You have to think of something!”
A slow smile spread across Tyler’s face. “I have a very good idea.”
His eyes fixed on her, intense and impossible to ignore. “Come here. Kneel down and I’ll tell you.”
Isabel walked over and knelt in front of him without thinking. She expected him to whisper some plan. Instead, he reached out and gripped her chin, his fingers tight.
“Marry me.”
Isabel’s eyes widened, and she tried to pull away. Tyler’s grip only tightened, making her face pale.
“If you want your shares in Nelson Corporation, the only way is to marry me.”
“James will come back. I know him better than anyone. He’ll find Emmy, and he’ll bring her home.”
“So before that happens, marry me.”
“Grandmother’s lawyer, Cadence, will make sure you get what you deserve.”
She quickly looked away, her thoughts spinning.
“I… I’ll think about it.”
…
A few days earlier.
After her strength gave out, Emmy had been unconscious for a full day and night before she finally started to wake up. As soon as her fingers moved, a voice she never expected to hear drifted over from the bedside. It was low and rough, careful, almost afraid.
“You’re awake?”
“Are you feeling alright?”
Emmy forced her eyes open, and when she saw the familiar face sitting by her bed, she could only stare in disbelief.

What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
