Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 891

Emmy sprinted through two city blocks, not daring to slow down for a second. She ducked behind a rundown corner shop, gulping air, her clothes clinging to her skin with cold sweat. Only after she was sure she hadn’t been followed did she slip inside.

“I’ll take a hat and a mask,” she said to the shopkeeper, her voice barely above a whisper.

Once she’d bundled herself up, hidden under layers, she finally felt her heartbeat begin to settle. She grabbed a piece of bread from a street vendor, ate as she walked, then headed straight for the docks and bought a ticket for the next boat leaving the island.

When the ferry’s horn echoed across the water, Emmy stood at the railing, watching the place she’d called hell fade further and further away. She gripped the cold metal, her eyes rimmed red.

Goodbye. This time, I’m really free.

On the other side of the sea, Dean finally got home after a long day. His eyes were locked on the glowing red dot on his tablet, his jaw tight with frustration. That blinking dot—so far away now, taunting him from another island.

“What happened?” he demanded.

“She didn’t have any money or ID. How did she get off the island?” Pierre handed him a fresh surveillance screenshot, trying not to meet Dean’s eyes.

“Sir, this was taken on the island. It looks like Madam helped a tourist fix his AI prosthetic arm. He gave her two hundred dollars.”

Dean flicked through the images until he stopped at a blurry photo. There was Emmy, hunched over a keyboard, totally absorbed. For the first time in ages, there was a spark in her eyes instead of that empty look he’d gotten used to.

Of course. That’s just like her. A low chuckle escaped Dean, but the darkness in his gaze didn’t budge.

“Should I send the helicopter?” Pierre asked quietly.

Dean’s attention shifted to another signal on the screen, marked “Mr. Nelson.” The two signals were nowhere near each other.

“No rush.” He took his time undoing his cufflinks, baring the deep, angry bite mark Emmy had left on his hand. His thumb brushed the scar, and his eyes were equal parts cold and hungry.

Let her run. Let that stubborn little bird crash and break her wings out there, so she finally learns which cage is the warmest.
