Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 909

The snake took a hard hit to the head, flopping around on the ground, dazed but stubbornly alive. It tried to wriggle back into the tall grass, but James didn’t give it a chance. He loaded his slingshot again and aimed carefully. Another sharp snap cut through the air. This time, the steel pellet hit right where it mattered most. The snake jerked a few more times, then finally went limp, only the faintest shivers left running through its body.

James put away his slingshot and eased himself down from the rocks. He grabbed the snake by the tail, giving it a little bounce in his hand. “Not bad. Looks like we’ve got breakfast.”

Emmy poked her head out from behind a rock, her face nearly white as she stared at the lifeless snake. “You… you’re really going to eat that?”

James glanced up at her, completely unfazed. “It’s a harmless tree snake. No poison. The meat’s firm and packed with protein, even more than beef.”

He shot her a slight grin. “You should try it after I cook it. You might actually like it.”

Emmy shook her head so hard it was a wonder it didn’t fall off. Her stomach flipped just thinking about it. “No way. I’ll starve before I eat that thing.”

Just looking at all those shiny, slippery scales made her want to gag. Eat it? Not a chance. She fumbled through her pocket, finally pulling out a half-eaten survival biscuit from last night. “I’ve got food. I’ll stick with this.”

James eyed the crumbly biscuit and frowned, but he didn’t push. He needed to get his strength back, and his wound demanded as much protein as he could get. To keep from grossing her out, he took the snake a little further away, then got to work. His hands moved fast, skinning, gutting, and slicing the snake into pieces like he’d done it a hundred times.

When he came back, he held out a few sticks threaded with pink pieces of snake meat. Emmy took one look and nearly passed out. Even skinned and chopped up, the meat still twitched a little on the sticks. Each tiny movement sent a chill down her spine.

“It… is it still alive?” she managed to whisper.

James set the skewers over the fire. “Just nerves. Once it’s cooked, it’ll stop. Nothing to worry about.”

The flames licked at the meat, filling the air with a sizzling sound. But the firewood was almost gone. Emmy, desperate for any excuse to look away from the snake, jumped up. “I’ll go gather more wood.”
