James glanced over at them. “Lunch is ready.”
Teresa rested her hand gently on Emmy’s shoulder. “Do you feel up to getting out of bed?”
Emmy was about to throw back the covers, but James spoke up first. “No need.”
He nodded toward the door. “Bring it in.”
A maid stepped inside, set up a small table over the bed, and laid out a few simple, nourishing dishes.
Honestly, Emmy didn’t feel so weak that she needed to stay in bed. She almost said she could go to the dining room, but when her eyes met James’s calm, steady gaze, the words just disappeared. Instead, she lowered her head and quietly picked up her spoon.
Right then, Teresa’s phone rang. She glanced at the screen, stood up, and stepped out onto the balcony to answer. The call dragged on for a while.
When she finally returned, her face was full of reluctance and a trace of helplessness. “Emmy, I have to get back to work.”
She knelt beside the bed, her voice gentle. “Promise me you’ll really focus on getting better. Whenever I have a spare moment, I’ll come see you, I swear.”
Emmy’s heart felt suddenly empty. Her nose stung, but she fought to keep her emotions in check and nodded quietly. She knew Mom must have something important waiting for her. She couldn’t be selfish.
“Mom, let me walk you out.” Emmy started to get up, throwing the covers aside.
Teresa hurried to stop her. “Don’t get up. My helicopter’s already here, and the wind outside is strong. You’re just starting to feel better, don’t risk catching a chill.”
She fussed a bit more, giving Emmy all sorts of reminders, then finally took a phone from her bag and placed it in Emmy’s hands. It was Emmy’s old phone—Teresa had been holding on to it for her all this time.
“Keep this with you, but promise me you’ll stay away from the news for a while. Don’t let your mind run wild. Call me anytime you want, okay?”
Emmy clutched the phone, nodded, and looked up at her mom, not wanting to let her go.
Teresa hugged her tight, holding on for a long moment before letting go and walking out.
The room fell quiet, with just Emmy and James sitting there. He watched her from his wheelchair, silent and steady.
At last, Emmy couldn’t hold back her tears. She wiped them away quickly, hoping no one would notice.
She honestly couldn’t figure out how she and James had ever crossed paths. In her last life, Dean had taken the business world by storm, unstoppable. But the only person he could never beat was Mr. Nelson. All she’d known was that he was mysterious and powerful, a man who could shake up the whole city with a word.
And then there was the rumor that he’d been some kind of Special Forces legend. That only made him seem even more unreal, like something out of a story.
“Our story started with a whirlwind marriage,” James said quietly, his voice smooth and steady.
Emmy was so surprised she couldn’t help pulling the blanket down a little and turning to look at him. Her gaze met his, and she found herself caught up in those deep, gentle eyes.
He moved his wheelchair closer, just a little, giving her space but making his presence felt.
“But now, I want to properly introduce myself,” he said, his voice calm and sincere.
He looked straight at her.
“Emmy, I’d like to get to know you again. Is that okay?”

chapter 1251 has no wording, just the chapter number...
What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
I enjoy reading this. I like that the storyline isn’t drawn out and moves on. I also appreciate chapters being added almost everyday, thank you....
