Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 924

The chat window was packed with messages from him, one after another, plus a handful of missed video calls. Emmy scrolled up and stopped when she saw the last thing she’d sent. The date read May 16, 2027.

[Hubby, I miss you so much.]

She stared at those words, completely thrown. Why did she send that? For a split second, it felt like a needle jabbed deep inside her mind, hitting the softest part.

“Ah…” The sound slipped out as she grabbed her head, pain flashing through her. Broken images flickered behind her eyes, gone before she could catch them.

She took a few shaky breaths, trying not to let the memories pull her under. After a while, the pain faded. She didn’t think, just tossed her phone into the corner. She couldn’t look at it again. She didn’t even want to think anymore.

Staring at the dark night sky, Emmy felt empty. The sea breeze brushed against her arms, sending a chill through her.

A soft knock sounded at the bedroom door.

Then James’s low, warm voice came through. “Emmy? Are you awake? Want to get up and have a snack?”

She slowly pulled herself out of the hanging chair. Her stomach growled—she was hungry, and honestly, she needed to do something, anything, to get her mind off what just happened. She slipped into her slippers, ran her fingers through her messy short hair, and opened the door.

The hallway lights spilled a gentle glow. James was waiting in his wheelchair, looking up at her with a soft smile. His eyes were deep and calm, but for some reason, Emmy felt restless when she looked at him. Maybe it was the gap in her memories, or maybe it was because of those messages. She really wanted to know what she’d forgotten. Why would she send this man a message like that?

James seemed to notice she wasn’t herself. His smile eased a little. “What’s wrong? Are you not feeling well? Does your head hurt again?”

He lifted his hand, reaching for her forehead. Emmy stepped back, avoiding his touch before she could stop herself. His hand paused in midair, and something sad flickered across his face, but he hid it quickly.

She felt awkward and mumbled, “No, I’m just… hungry, I guess.”

James let his hand fall. “Come on, let’s eat. I asked the kitchen to make some seafood soup, something light.”
