She barely got the words out before the group of men charged over, shovels in hand.

With no time to think, Emmy spun around and ran.

She rounded a corner and crashed straight into someone’s chest. It was so firm it made her nose sting.

“Ow…” she muttered, a muffled sound escaping her lips.

James reacted instantly. His arm wrapped around Emmy’s waist, steady and protective.

“What happened?” His voice was low, but before he could finish, he spotted the men chasing after her, followed by a staff member.

They were all running so fast, none of them noticed who was holding Emmy. When they saw a man, they just assumed he was with her. The leader barked something in a language Emmy didn’t understand, raising his shovel as if to swing at them.

“This island really is yours.”
