Abriella let out a sigh. “It’s for Emmy.”
The whole room went quiet.
She managed a small, helpless smile. “Even though Emmy can’t come back yet, and we can’t reach her, we still have to celebrate her birthday.” She glanced at the others. “Let’s record it. When she’s home, we’ll show her.”
She set her phone on the table, propped it up, and switched on the camera.
Krystina quietly stepped in front of the lens.
Sylvia stood by, her feelings a tangled mess. Ever since Emmy’s disappearance, they’d tried everything—contacts, press, even pulling international strings—but nothing seemed to work. In the end, it was James’s relentless effort that finally brought some news. Still, what they learned in that secret message was almost too much to bear. Emmy had been locked away, drugged, left in a deep depression, and she’d even lost more than a year of memories.
She wasn’t ready to see anyone from her old life. Any familiar face could be too much for her fragile mind to handle. All they could do was wait. Wait, and hold back from calling, from visiting, from anything that might set her back.
At least James was with her. They all knew how much he loved Emmy. In a way, that was the only comfort they had.
The three women lined up in front of the birthday cake. The camera was recording, even though Emmy couldn’t see them now. Still, every smile was real.
Abriella leaned in close, waving at the phone. “Emmy! Happy birthday!” she called out, her voice bright. “You little troublemaker, get better soon and come home, okay? You don’t even know—Tuan Tuan and Dolly are already starting to walk.”
Her voice caught for a second. “Every morning, those two wake up and the first thing they do is call for their mom. Their little voices… I can’t take it. It breaks my heart. They really miss you. We all do.”
Krystina took a breath, stepping forward. “Happy birthday, little sis. Your mentor and everyone at the lab are waiting for you. The professor keeps hoping your new project will shake up the whole world. Come home soon. Your big sis is here for you.”
Abriella’s eyes went wide, her cake forgotten. “Wait, what? Where did you get that?”
She reached for the bracelet, but Krystina snatched it out of reach. “Hands off. If you break it, you couldn’t pay me back. I got it from Danny.”
Abriella stared, completely shocked, her voice shooting up in pitch. “Danny? How did he get one? Why does he get something from Emmy?”
Krystina flashed a smug grin. “Mr. Nelson actually gave Danny permission to deliver some files overseas. He got to visit Emmy while he was there. She made this as a thank you gift.”
Abriella looked like she’d been hit by a truck. Her jealousy was impossible to hide. “No way. That’s so unfair. Why don’t I have one? I want a gift from Emmy too!”
She tossed her cake onto the table, pulled out her phone, and punched in Danny’s number. “Danny! Get up to the CEO’s office right now! This is urgent!”

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
