Danny thought it was some urgent work emergency, so he sprinted to the CEO’s office, barely catching his breath.

Abriella was waiting for him. “Danny, why does everyone have a bracelet made by Emmy except me? Seriously, you need to get me one too.”

Danny froze, totally caught off guard. Before he could even say a word, Krystina lifted her wrist and flashed the shell bracelet, its colors catching the light and drawing everyone’s attention. She grinned. “Sorry, this one’s mine.”

Danny felt completely wronged. That bracelet was supposed to be a special gift from Ms. Lincoln for his future girlfriend. He had barely set foot back in the country before Krystina cornered him, asking all about Ms. Lincoln. The moment she found out about the bracelet, she didn’t let him explain, just snatched it away like a bandit.

Just as he was about to try and clear things up, Sylvia came over too.

“Danny, come on, don’t be stingy. Since you’re the only one who can reach Ms. Lincoln, can you ask her for one more for me?”

Danny was at a complete loss for words. Krystina crossed her arms, egging Sylvia on. “Exactly. You’re the only one who can get in touch with her. Just think of some excuse. Ms. Lincoln’s always been generous. If you ask, she’ll definitely say yes.”

It felt like he was being ganged up on. The three of them kept pressing him, insisting he call Ms. Lincoln immediately.

Danny’s head was spinning. Looking at their eager, determined faces, he finally gave in, sighing as he pulled out his phone.

He dialed the international number. As soon as the call went through, a familiar voice came from the other end.

“Hello?”

That single word was enough to make all three women’s eyes fill with tears. They hadn’t heard Emmy’s voice in a year, but now none of them could say a thing.

Danny glanced at their red eyes, forced down the lump in his throat, and tried to sound normal. “Ms. Lincoln, I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday.”

Emmy sounded a little surprised. She’d already gotten his message earlier that morning, so why the special call? Still, she smiled, her voice gentle. “Thank you. That’s very thoughtful of you.”

Danny felt all three women’s eyes on him and had no choice but to keep going. “Um, there’s something else I wanted to ask. It’s a little awkward…”

“Go ahead,” Emmy replied.

Across the ocean, at Star Jewel, Emmy hung up and didn’t give it another thought. She went back to her room, picked out two of her prettiest shell bracelets, put them in a box, and handed them to an assistant who was heading off the island.

“Please give these to Danny.”

With that done, she was about to return to her bedroom when someone called her name.

“Emmy.”

A deep, magnetic voice filled the hallway. Even though it was naturally commanding, it softened a little when he said her name.

Emmy turned around and saw James standing in the doorway of the conference room. He’d just finished a video meeting and hadn’t changed out of his black shirt yet. The top two buttons were undone, showing the sharp line of his collarbone. His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, veins showing on his forearms. He looked strong and confident.

“Come in for a minute,” he said, beckoning her over.
