The bedroom was bathed in soft, golden light, so much warmer and cozier than the formal meeting rooms or the echoing dining hall. At first, they sat side by side on the couch, talking. But as the stacks of papers grew, the sofa ran out of space. Emmy just plopped herself down on the carpet, legs crossed. James followed her without a second thought.
Their conversation stretched on, drifting deeper into the night. At some point, James poured two glasses of red wine and handed one to her. “Here, for your throat,” he said, smiling.
Emmy took a sip, pointed at a blueprint, and launched into another impassioned explanation. “This section has to change. If we can solve this, we might actually control the whole data flow for the South Pacific…” She was so caught up in the discussion that she didn’t even notice how the hours slipped by. They ended up talking all night, moving from the carpet to the bed. Who knew when they’d ended up sitting shoulder to shoulder at the headboard, surrounded by scattered papers and tablets.
Most of the wine ended up in Emmy’s stomach. She hadn’t drunk in ages, and with her excitement running high, it hit her quickly. The sharp focus in her mind started to blur.
“And… if we do this…” Her words started to tangle, cheeks glowing a rosy pink. She still clutched a blueprint in one hand, but her body began to slump. “James… one day… I’m going to make so much money… and I’ll spend it all… on you…” she mumbled, her gaze dreamy and fixed on him.
James turned, watching her with eyes as deep as midnight. He swallowed, something in him stirring. They’d spent the entire night talking business and code, and somehow, she’d managed to set his whole body on fire.
“Alright, spend it all on me,” he said, gently pulling the blueprint from her hand and tossing it aside.
Emmy’s brow crinkled the second he finished. She suddenly grabbed a fistful of his shirt collar and yanked him down, pulling him so close their noses nearly touched.
“I’m not drunk!” she insisted, glaring at him with stubborn determination. The smell of red wine lingered between them, her breath warm against his chin. “My head’s perfectly clear. I have so many ideas, and I want to tell you every single one.”
James had no choice but to stay right there, caught in that electric closeness. He watched her lips move, close enough to feel the invitation in every word. His eyes darkened, his heartbeat loud in his chest, and he couldn’t stop himself. The heat she’d lit inside him finally burned through all his restraint. He leaned in, drawn helplessly toward her lips.

What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
