Emmy sat there, listening in a daze.

The more successful he became, the more enemies he made, until he was carrying a gun everywhere. She used to think he was just being dramatic, maybe even showing off. The range was on the far side of the island. They’d have to drive or ride over, and if they left now, it’d be pitch black by the time they got there, impossible to really enjoy it.

James arched a brow and pulled a chair up beside her, settling in. “I’m listening.”

Emmy pointed at a chart in the file, her voice growing more animated. “See this? Fiji’s got amazing tourism resources, but the AI guide system is way too stiff. What if we added an emotional algorithm, so the AI could actually be a companion, not just a tour guide? And for the security system, if we use that dark web data you found, we could build a warning model that actually predicts danger…”

The more she talked, the more excited she got, her whole face lighting up.

James watched her quietly, taking in the way her eyes sparkled and how alive she seemed.

They talked for hours, drifting from dinner right into a midnight snack. Even after they’d eaten, Emmy still wanted to keep going, pulling James along as she mapped out their business ambitions. The dream of building something together—something just theirs—filled her with energy.

“Let’s move to the bedroom and keep going,” James suggested, glancing at the clock.
