Chapter 100

Chapter 100

It was a very subtle flex of the finger.

Luna kept feeding the nutritional supplement into Leo’s tube, completely missing that tiny movement.

Knock, knock!

Someone was knocking outside.

Luna called out, her voice calm and unhurried, “Come in.”

A young doctor in a white coat stepped out.

He looked young, with a gentle, scholarly vibe.

He was probably around twenty-eight or twenty-nine.

This was Dr. Hale Morrison, the doctor in charge of Leo’s recovery.

“Ms. Luna,” Hale greeted.

Luna had just finished feeding all the supplements through the tube. Hearing Ryan’s voice, she stood up. “Dr. Walker, you’re here.”

Hale nodded, walked over to the bed, and opened his medical bag to examine Leo.

Luna stood to the side and asked with concern, “Dr. Morrison, how’s my brother doing now?”

Hale’s voice was soft and soothing. Meeting Luna’s gaze, he said, Ms. Luna, rest assured. I’ll do my best and I won’t let you down. I’ll make sure Mr. Sullivan gets better as soon as possible.”

Luna smiled and nodded. “Thanks, Dr. Morrison. I’m counting on you.”

Two days later.

Nerissa had no trouble getting her travel permit, and now she and Faye were boarding a flight to Minttown together.

Faye was practically bouncing with excitement. “Nerissa, this is the first time I’ve ever gone on a trip with a best friend!”

Before, she’d always traveled with her parents and brother.

“Me too,” Nerissa replied.

In the past, Nerissa didn’t have any close friends and she was aloe most of the time.

After a three-hour flight,

the plane landed smoothly at Minttown International Airport.

As soon as they got off the plane, they spotted the famous selfiepot at the airport.

Faye immediately handed her phone to Nerissa. “Nerissa, can you snap a pic of me? I want to post it in my family group

chat.

“Sure, Nerissa said, taking the phone and snapping a photo of Faye.

After taking Faye’s photo, Nerissa handed her phone over. “Fifi, can you take one of me too? I want to send it to my grandpa to let him know I’m safe.”

Before, Nerissa had never had to check in with anyone when she went out.

Faye’s comment made her realize something.

Earlier that morning, Hunter had told her, Text me when you land at the airport.”

“Sure thing, Faye replied.

Nerissa walked over to the landmark and flashed her signature sign.

As soon as Ivy and her childhood friend Vivian stepped off the plane, they spotted Nerissa posing for a selfie at the landmark. Ivy froze for a second, and then snorted. “What a country bumpkin. So embarrassing!”

In Ivy’s eyes, only someone who’d never been anywhere would act like Nerissa, snapping photos nonstop just because she finally made it out of town, like she wanted the whole world to know she was in Minttown.

Seeing Ivy’s reaction, Vivian asked curiously, “Ivy, do you know her?”

Vivian, just like Ivy had been, came from a regular family. Five people from three generations all squeezed into a cramped, run-down apartment.

The only reason Ivy hung out with her now was for that sense of superiority.

After all, they had been on the same level, but now Ivy’s family was way better off than Vivian’s. She absolutely loved having Vivian fawn over her.

Honestly, it felt way better than brown-nosing Alice and Linda ever did!

With her family’s situation turned around, Ivy started bossing Vivian around.

“Yeah, I know her. She’s that abandoned baby Hunter Jamison picked up off the street,” Ivy said with a sneer.

Now that Hunter had cut ties with Dylan, Ivy thought to herself, No need to bother calling him Grandpa anymore.

Vivian knew all about Nerissa. “Didn’t she already get divorced from the young man from the Calloway family?”

“Yeah,” Ivy said with a smirk. “So now she’s just some secondhand goods nobody wants.”

Vivian’s eyes were full of contempt. “She’s already divorced and still has the nerve to stand there taking pictures? Out in public like that! Does she really think she’s hot stuff? If I were her I’d just jump in a river and be done with it.”

“Excuse me!”

Out of nowhere, someone called out nearby.

Ivy and Vivian looked up and saw a bunch of bodyguards clearing a path, surrounding a middle-aged man who just radiated authority.

Beside him was a woman in a traditional dress and a stylish coat, so glamorous and elegant.

The whole entourage was seriously intimidating.

Heads turned all at once as everyone at the airport stared.

Vivian gasped, “Oh my god! Are they celebrities? They look so fancy!”

Ivy rolled her eyes at Vivian. “Wow, Vivian, you really don’t get out much, do you? They’re not celebrities!”

“If they’re not celebrities, then who are they?” Vivian asked, her curiosity getting the better of her. “Who else could cause such a scene at the airport besides celebrities?”

Ivy just rolled her eyes.

‘Indeed. People like Vivian are so out of touch. To her, the only rich people she can imagine are celebrities,’ Ivy thought, feeling superior.

Ivy went on, “They’re way more powerful than any celebrity. That’s Mr. Joel Berenson, the second son of the Berenson family, basically the kingpin of Minttown, and his wife Jessica. Mr. Berenson runs one of the biggest entertainment empires here. All the hottest actors and actresses work for him. His status blows any celebrity out of the water.”

“Rumor has it he was already worth billions ten years ago. And his wife Jessica? She’s the number one heiress of Pearl City. Together, they’re a total power couple! Around here, unless you’re from the Berenson family, especially the second branch, you can’t even hope to compete.”

Vivian’s eyes widened in shock. “Oh my god, Ivy, you’re amazing How do you know all this?”

Ivy said proudly, “Because my cousin is Jessica’s personal assistant. See her? The one standing next to Jessica, carrying her bag!”

With that, Ivy waved at her cousin Hailey in the crowd. “Hailey!”

The Berenson family was the absolute powerhouse in Minttown

They were the undisputed number one dynasty in the city.

Not just anyone could become Jessica’s personal assistant.

That was why Ivy was always so proud of Hailey.

This trip to Minttown was all about seeing Hailey, and grabbing the chance to rub shoulders with the city’s elite.

Hailey heard Ivy and raised her hand, waving back with a bright smile.

When Hailey waved at her, Ivy couldn’t hide her pride. “Did you see that? My cousin just waved at me! She’s seriously awesome. Right after graduating college, she became Jessica’s pesonal assistant. She gets to rub shoulders with all those big shots we ordinary people only ever see on TV!”

As she finished, Ivy shot a smug look over at Nerissa in the crow

I’ve got a cousin working for Jessica, but Nerissa’s got nothing like that. Bet she’s jealous as hell seeing me wave at Hailey, Ivy thought, her sense of superiority swelling.

For a moment, Ivy’s confidence was through the roof.

But when Ivy glanced back, she noticed Nerissa’s gaze lingering Joel Berenson.

Yep.

Nerissa was watching Joel Berenson in the crowd.

‘I can’t put my finger on it, Nerissa thought to herself.

Even though this is my first time seeing him, he feels strangely familiar, Nerissa mused.

That strange sense of familiarity made Nerissa unable to tear her eyes away from him.

‘My feelings are all over the place right now,’ she thought, her heart tangled up with emotions.

It was the kind of feeling that words just couldn’t capture.

Seeing Nerissa staring at Joel Berenson, Ivy let out a cold snort, her eyes full of contempt.

Just look at her, she’s obviously trying to cozy up to the Berenson family!’ Ivy thought, her disdain clear.

‘So shameless!’ Ivy scoffed.

‘Seriously, she’s got no shame at all!’ Ivy sneered to herself.

‘Does Nerissa really think just because she’s pretty, she can land herself a spot in the Berenson family and get attention?’ Ivy thought, rolling her eyes.

‘She’s just some country bumpkin. No way she’ll ever have anything to do with the Berenson family, not in this life, Ivy thought with a sneer.

Ivy narrowed her eyes, thinking, ‘If anyone here can get close to the Berenson family, it’s me!’

After all, her cousin worked for Jessica!
