Chapter 99

Chapter 99

Yvonne’s feelings for Nerissa went way beyond just liking the young girl.

She was truly impressed by Nerissa.

To Yvonne, Nerissa was definitely the one who could find a way cure Mrs. Sullivan’s condition.

Mrs. Sullivan shook her head. “It’s nothing serious, really. It hasnt flared up lately, and I’m fine. Besides, it’s cold out, and I don’t feel like making trips back and forth.”

Except for things related to Arie.

Mrs. Sullivan had lost interest in everything else lately.

Since Mrs. Sullivan wasn’t up for it, Yvonne didn’t want to push her. “Alright then. Next spring, I’ll come to Kindowen and take you to Aosthorne for a little getaway.”

“Okay,” Mrs. Sullivan said with a nod.

They were chatting

when Luna walked over with Anna.

Luna called out, “Mom, Aunt Yvonne.”

Anna followed, saying, “Grandma, Ms. Jenkins.”

Each of them greeted the others in turn.

Yvonne gave a slight nod.

Mrs. Sullivan glanced at Luna, a little surprised. “Luna, didn’t you say you were going to Dunstan’s hometown with him today?”

It was a long trip to Dunstan’s hometown.

Every year before the New Year, Luna would go with her husban to visit his family.

Today was supposed to be the day Luna headed out.

“Dunstan had something come up last minute, so we’re going to his hometown the day after tomorrow,” Luna said, pausing briefly. “Oh, Mom, Anna won’t be joining us this year.”

“That’s fine, you and Dunstan can decide these things yourselves Mrs. Sullivan said. She rarely meddled in Luna and Dunstan’s family affairs.

Luna continued, “Anna wants to go have some fun in Minttown efore the New Year”

Mrs. Sullivan echoed, “Minttown?”

Before Mrs. Sullivan could respond, Luna went on, “Mom, remember how Mrs. Berenson and Eliana came all the way to Kindowen to visit you last time? If Anna goes to Minttown and doesn’t drop by the Berensons to say hi, wouldn’t that be kind

of rude?”

To be honest,

ever since Mrs. Berenson and Eliana returned to Minttown, Ann had been waiting.

Chapter 99

She was waiting for Eliana to personally invite her to visit the Benson family.

After all, when Mrs. Berenson and Eliana were in Kindowen, the had a really good impression of Anna.

Normally,

Eliana should’ve reached out to invite Anna to Minttown by now

But with the New Year approaching and still no sign from Eliana Luna was getting pretty anxious.

Some things were better done sooner rather than later.

If they waited any longer, it would be next year before anything happened.

So, they had to take the initiative.

They couldn’t afford to wait for long.

After all, Eliana was a successful businesswoman. She was probably just so caught up with work that inviting Anna simply slipped her mind.

Mrs. Sullivan thought for a moment before saying, “Luna, if Anna wants to go to Minttown for a trip, let her. But I don’t think she should bother the Berenson family.”

After all, Anna was just the Sullivan family’s granddaughter, and she had no real connection to the Berenson family.

If she just showed up at the Berensons’ place out of the blue, what would that even look like?

Who would she even be representing?

People who didn’t know any better might think Anna was just trying to climb the social ladder.

Mrs. Sullivan always put the bigger picture first.

She couldn’t let people talk behind Anna’s back, or say that she was just some clueless old lady who didn’t know how to handle things or deal with people.

Anna’s face darkened.

She knew Mrs. Sullivan always favored Ariel over her.

But what really hurt was that Mrs. Sullivan wouldn’t even let her go see the Berensons.

‘Why?’

‘Why?’

What did I ever do to deserve this?’ she fumed, feeling more and more frustrated.

The plane was off-limits to her!

They wouldn’t even let her near the jewelry!

And now, she couldn’t even go see the Berensons!

What is Grandpa Tiffany so afraid of? Is she worried I’m too clever and might end up taking Ariel’s spot with the Berensons?’ Anna muttered to herself, feeling a sting of resentment.

Yeah, that’s gotta be it, Anna thought, her annoyance growing.

‘Definitely, she told herself, convinced.

‘If that’s not the reason, then why else won’t she let me visit the Berensons?’ Anna grumbled, getting more frustrated.

‘She’s so biased!’

‘She’s so obviously biased!’ Anna fumed, her bitterness growing by the second.

‘So what, Ariel’s the only granddaughter that matters to her? What am I then, chopped liver?’ Anna thought, her chest tightening with hurt.

The more Anna dwelled on it, the worse she felt.

When Luna heard Mrs. Sullivan’s response, her smile froze. “Mom, I understand your concerns, but Mrs. Berenson and Eliana traveled all the way to Kindowen just to visit you. Now that Anna’s heading to Minttown, if she doesn’t at least pay them a visit, won’t people gossip?”

Mrs. Sullivan shook her head. “Mrs. Berenson and Eliana aren’t unreasonable. They understand our family’s situation and wouldn’t take offense. If Anna wants to go to Minttown and enjoy herself, let her. Don’t get caught up in all that unnecessary drama.”

As she spoke, Mrs. Sullivan turned to Anna. “Minttown is a shopper’s paradise. Anna, you’re at that age where you love shopping, dressing up, and accessorizing. When you’re there, don’t worry about pinching pennies for me. Just buy whatever catches your eye. If you run out of cash, just ask me.”

Mrs. Sullivan had a special place in her heart for this granddaughter Ana.

After all, if they couldn’t find Arie, Anna would be the only heir to the Sullivan Group.

“Thanks, Grandma,” Anna forced a smile.

Luna could tell there was no changing her mom’s mind, so she quickly shifted gears. “Alright, Mom, I understand. Anna won’t bother the Berensons. You and Aunt Yvonne catch up. I’ll take Anna to start prepping lunch.”

“Go on,” Mrs. Sullivan nodded, and then reminded her, “Yvonne heading back to Aosthorne soon, so have the kitchen whip up some of her favorite dishes.”

“Sure thing, Mom,” Luna replied.

Yvonne chimed in, “Really, you don’t have to bother just for me.

“It’s no trouble at all,” Mrs. Sullivan said, giving Yvonne’s hand a gentle pat.

Luna walked Anna out of the garden.

Anna said, sounding really down, “Mom, maybe I just won’t go to Minttown. I’ll just go with you and Dad to visit Dad’s family.”

“Why?” Luna asked.

Anna continued, “She won’t even let me visit the Berensons, so what’s the point of going there?”

Anna only wanted to go to Minttown so she could get close to th Berensons.

She wanted to win the Berensons over, to really get in good with them.

But now…

Luna narrowed her eyes. “Just because she said no, you’re giving up?”

As Luna spoke, she took Anna’s hand. “Anna, opportunities aren something you wait for. They’re something you go out and grab yourself.”

Luna was implying something.

Nobody understood Luna better than Anna.

Anna instantly got the hint. Her eyes had been dull and downcas, but now they suddenly lit up with hope. “Mom, I know exactly what to do.”

Luna said with a gentle smile. “Mrs. Berenson absolutely loves those local handmade pastries. Don’t forget to take some with you.”

Even a small gift brought from afar meant a lot.

For a family like the Berensons, it was not about how fancy the present was. What really mattered was the thought one put into it.

Anna’s eyes lit up and she flashed a confident smile. “No problem, Mom. I’ll get someone to buy them right away.”

“Go ahead,” Luna said with a nod.

After Anna left, Luna headed to the kitchen and told the chef, “Ms. Jenkins is staying for lunch today, so make the dishes extra spicy.”

Yvonne loved her food spicy.

She enjoyed different flavors.

The chef nodded. “Got it, Ms. Luna.”

Luna then asked, “Is Mr. Sullivan’s tonic ready?”

She was talking about Leo, of course.

Even though Leo was bedridden and in a vegetative state, he still needed to get his nutrition regularly.

“It’s ready,” the chef replied.

Luna turned to grab the tonic.

About ten minutes later, Luna arrived at Leo’s courtyard, carrying the tonic.

She held the tonic in one hand and pushed the door open with the other.

“Leo,” she called out softly.

Leo was lying there, completely still, not reacting at all.

The tonic had been prepped by the chef, so Luna just had to can fully feed it through the tube. As she did, she spoke softly, her voice gentle and full of hope. “Leo, you need to get better son. Mom’s still waiting for you to wake up and uncover the truth about that car accident all those years ago.”

No one noticed, but just as Luna finished it, Leo’s index finger, resting on the edge of the bed, twitched ever so slightly.
