Yvonne’s words sent a jolt of hope through Verena. She was so excited that she almost thought she’d misheard. “Aunt Yvonne, are you saying you actually know a miracle doctor who can do the Needle Crossing?”

Yvonne nodded firmly. “Yes, I do. She’s my lifesaver. I had a heart attack and collapsed on the street, and she was the one who saved me. If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t be here today.”

‘Nerissa’s skills are incredible. She has to be able to save Mrs. Berenson, Verena thought, her heart racing with hope.

Verena’s voice trembled with excitement. “That’s amazing! Aunt Yvonne, could you please help us get in touch with her? Whatever it takes, whatever the cost, we’ll pay it. Please, help us save my mother.”

The Berenson family was loaded.

Mrs. Berenson still had regrets, things she hadn’t finished, and none of her children wanted to see her go like this.

She needed to survive.

She had to stay strong and healthy.

Only if she kept fighting could she wait for Arie to

Come back..

Honestly, the Berenson family had lost all hope that Charlotte would ever come back.

After the accident, they had consulted countless fortune-tellers and mystics, seeking answers.

But every time, they always got the same answer. No

She would come back alive.

if Charlotte was alive or dead.

So, all these years, the Berenson family had actually poured most of their energy into Ariel.

“She’s not in Minttown. She’s in Aosthorne. Verena, don’t worry. I was actually planning to visit her anyway, to bring her some New Year’s gifts. I’ll call you back after I see her,” Yvonne said.

The moment Yvonne got back from Kindowen, the first thing o

her mind was to go see Nerissa.

She’d already had the gifts prepared ahead of time.

She hadn’t even made it there yet

when she got Verena’s call.

“Okay, Aunt Yvonne, I’m really counting on you for this. I’ll be waiting to hear from you,” Verena said, her voice brimming with hope.

“You’re welcome. Your mom and I go way back, and we’re best friends.” Yvonne said with a gentle smile.

After hanging up, Verena rushed straight to her mother-in-law’s ward.

Jasper and Sean were already there.

Only the other three bothers were still on their way.

Right now, Mrs. Berenson’s VIP ward was crowded with family.

Chapter 104

Almost everyone was here.

It was a big family.

“Victor” Verena called out.

Hearing her voice, Victor turned around, his face looking weathered and worn. “What’s it, Verena?”

Like people say,

37%

As long as your parents are alive, you always have somewhere to go in life. But once they’re gone, all that’s left is the road

home.

Even though Victor was well into his sixties,

the pain of losing his mother was still too much for him to handle.

It had only been two days since Mrs. Berenson’s accident, and Victor had already broken down in private a few times.

Verena sniffled, her voice trembling with hope. “I just talked to Aunt Yvonne. She knows a genius doctor who can do the Needle Crossing technique. Victor, Mom can be saved!”

“Really?” Victor’s eyes, which had been so lifeless just moments ago, suddenly lit up.

Hearing this, everyone else in the room turned to look at Verena

“Verena, you’re not joking, right?” someone asked.

“I’m not joking! Aunt Yvonne told me she had a heart attack this year, and that genius doctor saved her!” Verena replied.

A heart attack was a serious condition.

It was not something just any doctor could save the patient from

“Thank God!” Jessica pressed her palms together, her voice trembling with hope. “I knew it. Mom’s got such good fortune. Fate was bound to send her a lifesaver!”

Jasper looked at Verena. “Verena, since Aunt Yvonne knows a miracle doctor who can do the Needle Crossing technique, what are we waiting for? Let’s get her over here ASAP!”

“Exactly! Mom’s running out of time,” Sean jumped in.

“Jasper, Sean, just hang tight. Aunt Yvonne said the miracle doctor is in Aosthorne right now, and I’ve already asked her to pay her a visit for us. All we need to do now is wait for Aunt Yvonne’s update,” Verena reassured them.

Jasper’s wife Joanna was always the impatient type. She shot up from her seat and said, “Waiting for someone to get back to us is way too slow! Mom can’t wait around in her condition. Why don’t Jasper and I go to Aosthorne ourselves and bring Aunt Yvonne and that miracle doctor over?”

Joanna didn’t know if this miracle doctor could really save Mrs. Berenson, but at least there was a glimmer of hope now.

It was way better than just sitting here in the dark, with nothing to hope for.

“No,” Victor shook his head. “Mom’s in critical condition. None of us, not the brothers or the kids, can leave her side right now! Aunt Yvonne and Mom go way back. Let’s just wait for her call.”

If something did happen to their mom, none of the brothers could forgive themselves for not being there with her.

They had to be prepared to say their final goodbyes.

Chapter 104

Jasper nodded. “Victor is right. Mom’s condition is still unstable. None of us can leave her side.”

What if the moment they stepped out, Mom couldn’t make it?

No one wanted that to happen.

But they had to be ready for the worst, just in case.

Dr. Campbell had just come in to change Mrs. Berenson’s bandages when he caught the family deep in discussion.

37%

He froze, disbelief written all over his face. “Hold on, did you say you know someone else who can do the Needle Crossing?”

“That’s right,” Joel nodded.

Dr. Campbell frowned, unable to hold back his warning. “Victor, even Professor Sloan, the Divine Doctor’s disciple, couldn’t master the Needle Crossing technique. The odds of anyone else knowing how to do it are next to nothing. You really shouldn’t just grab at any straw in a panic.”

Professor Sloan was a titan in the medical world, and he’d spent years pouring his heart into studying the Needle Crossing technique. Even with the Divine Doctor’s guidance, he still couldn’t pull it off. That showed how insanely difficult it was.

But now,

someone with no reputation or credentials was saying he could pull off the Needle Crossing technique. Dr. Campbell couldn’t help but doubt his motive.

Verena jumped in, “Ms. Jenkins is the one vouching for her, and this miracle doctor literally saved Ms. Jenkins when she had a heart attack out of nowhere. I’m telling you, she’s legit. If she wasn’t, there’s no way she could’ve saved Ms. Jenkins’s life.”

Mr. Campbell shook his head. “A sudden heart attack is a whole different story from what Mrs. Berenson’s dealing with. If you get help quickly, most skilled doctors can handle it. You don’t need some miracle technique like Needle Crossing to pull someone through.”

A heart attack was serious, sure,

but

it

not hopeless. People could bounce back if they got help in time.

Mrs. Berenson’s case was a whole different story.

Victor knew exactly what Dr. Campbell was worried about, but his eyes were full of resolve. “It doesn’t matter if she’s a miracle doctor or not, or if she can do the Needle Crossing technique, we have to bring her here and at least try!”

Everyone else in the Berenson family nodded along.

After all,

this was their mother’s last hope.

Meanwhile,

As soon as Anna touched down at Minttown International Airport, she was already thinking about sneaking over to see Mrs. Berenson without anyone noticing.

The Berenson family’s old mansion was located in the most exclusive neighborhood in all of Minttown.

Almost as soon as the car stopped,

Anna’s phone rang. It was Luna.

“Hey, Mom, what’s up?” Anna answered.

Luna asked, “Did you get to the Berenson house yet?”

“I just got here,” Anna replied.

Luna said, “Anna, if you haven’t already gone in, just don’t.”

“Why?” Anna tensed up instantly, anxiety flashing in her eyes. “Dil Grandma say something again?”

She really thought she could finally get close to the Berenson family this time, no drama, no obstacles.

But nope.

What a joke,’ she thought.

‘Honestly, this was just too much,’ she muttered to herself.

Most parents and elders just wanted the younger generation to do well and be happy.

But Mrs. Sullivan? She was a whole different story.

She never wanted Anna to succeed.

Instead, she kept blocking Anna’s path, making sure she never got a chance to shine.

The more Anna thought about it, the worse she felt. Her eyes burned. When the cold wind hit her face, she almost lost it, tears threatening to spill over.

She just couldn’t let it go.

She really couldn’t stand it. It was just too much to swallow.

Just then, Luna said, “Your grandma just got a call from the Berenson family. Mrs. Berenson had a fall and is now in critical condition at Harbourview Hospital. You need to get over there right now!”

Luna paused for a moment. “Anna, your grandma was planning to come herself, but she had another headache flare-up right before she was about to leave. And your uncle Leo is still in bed, needing someone to look after him, so I have to stay home and take care of them both.”

Anna’s face lit up.

She couldn’t describe how happy she was.

‘Perfect, she thought.

‘Even better,’ she grinned to herself.

‘Even the universe is helping me out now!’ Anna thought, feeling like luck was finally on her side.

Honestly, Mrs. Sullivan’s headache couldn’t have come at a better time. She was such a stickler for rules and traditions. If she’d actually made it to Minttown, Anna would’ve been walking on eggshells the whole time, totally unable to show her true self in front of the Berenson family.

But now, with Mrs. Sullivan stuck at home because of her headache, Anna felt a wave of relief. She could finally relax and didn’t have to watch every move for Mrs. Sullivan’s approval.

Luna continued, sounding urgent and encouraging. “Anna, Mrs. Berenson is in critical condition, and all the younger Berensons are flying in from all over the world. This is your golden opportunity. Grab it! If you pull this off, you could end

Chapter 105

“Okay, Mom,” Anna replied with a smug smile. “I won’t let you down.”

“Alright, I’m hanging up now. If you need anything, just give me call,” her mom said.

After hanging up, Luna made her way to the Sullivan family’s private clinic.

Because Leo had been ill for years, Mrs. Sullivan had set up a well-equipped clinic right at home.

Luna walked up to the door and knocked.

“Come in.”

The doctor said.

Luna pushed the door open and stepped inside.

The doctor quickly rose to his feet. “Ms. Luna.”

Luna nodded. “Could you pay extra attention to my mom’s migraines these next few days? Thank you.”

“Ms. Luna, you’re welcome. It’s what I’m here for,” he replied.

Meanwhile,

Anna bought a bouquet of flowers and headed to the Harbourview Hospital.

But since Mrs. Berenson was staying in the most exclusive suite, with security guards posted at the door, Anna couldn’t just walk in and see her.

The security captain checked Anna’s ID, and then said, “Please wait here for a moment. I’ll go ask Mrs. Verena Berenson if she’ll see you.”

After Mrs. Berenson collapsed,

the responsibility of running the Berenson family naturally fell on Verena’s shoulders.

“Okay,” Anna replied, putting on her sweetest, most well-behaved act. “I’ll wait for your reply.”

The security captain turned and walked into the suite.

Mrs. Berenson’s suite was a spacious three-bedroom with a living room.

Since Victor, Joel and Lawrence had kept vigil by her bedside all night, it was now the turn of Harvey, Sean and their wives to watch over her.

Verena and Eliana, the two sisters-in-law, were sitting in the living room, chatting.

“Ma’am.” The security captain called

out.

“What is it?” Verena looked up.

The security captain continued, “Ms. Anna Bailey is here

“Anna? Which Anna?” Verena was momentarily confused.

Even Eliana looked a bit taken aback.

The security captain explained. “The Sullivan family’s granddaughter.”

That made it click for both of them.

Verena immediately said, “Let Anna in.”

“Yes, ma’am,” the security captain replied.

He turned and walked out of the room.

Verena seemed to remember something and stood up, looking at Eliana. “Eliana, let’s go greet Anna.”

37%

Even though Anna wasn’t really part of the Berenson family, she was still the Sullivan family’s granddaughter and Arie’s

cousin.

Out of respect for the Sullivan family, they had to be polite.

It was the right thing to do.

“No need, Verena. Let’s just sit and wait for her,” Eliana said, pulling Verena back down onto the sofa. “That girl Anna’s always looking for a way to get ahead. If we go out to greet her, she’ll probably start imagining all sorts of things.”

Verena looked a bit surprised. “You don’t like her?”

Eliana didn’t answer directly. Instead, she asked, “Verena, do you remember what she called us the first time Mom and I visited the Sullivan family?”

Verena thought for a moment. “She should’ve called Mom ‘Mrs. Berenson’ and you ‘Aunt Eliana.”

“No, she didn’t call us that at all!” Eliana said. “She just called me Auntie’ and called Mom ‘Grandma!””

Verena frowned slightly. “This girl really knows how to play the game.”

Even though the Berenson family and the Sullivan family were related by marriage, and Anna was Arie’s cousin,

at the end of the day, Anna had no real ties to the Berenson family.

“It’s not just that. She is not even subtle about it,” Eliana said, clearly not impressed with Anna.

Eliana couldn’t stand Anna at all.

She was worried that if Arie ever came back, Anna would try to push her around.

Just then, footsteps echoed from the hallway.

The two sisters-in-law finally stopped gossiping.

“Anna’s here,” Eliana said. Even though she wasn’t a fan of Anna, she kept her feelings hidden out of respect for Mrs. Sullivan.

“Hello, Aunt Eliana,” Anna greeted sweetly.

Eliana nodded, and then introduced, “This is Aunt Verena.”

Anna glanced up at Verena, thinking to herself, ‘So this is the current matriarch of the Berenson family, Verena.

Verena was in her sixties and already had a grandson, but she looked incredibly well-kept.

“Hello, Aunt Verena,” Anna said politely.
