Chapter 30 Moving Out
When Riley questioned whether Nerissa might be a con artist, Hannah laughed, “Do I look senile to you?”
She could spot a gold digger from a mile away.
Riley poured Hannah a glass of water. “Better safe than sorry. I’ve actually worked with Ms. Jamison before, and she saved Lennox’s life, so I know she’s genuine. But you only met this girl once.”
Hannah had always been a good judge of character, but she was getting older now.
The world had become so complicated, and people would do anything to get what they wanted.
Riley worried someone might take advantage of her.
Hannah picked up her cup and took a sip. “Riley, I’m telling you right now-once you meet that girl, you’re gonna like her too.” Riley had high standards, and very few people could win her over at first sight. Nerissa was the exception. But there were not many people like Nerissa existed in the world.
“Mom, that’s just your subjective opinion,” Riley said.
Hannah smiled, “Then we’ll wait and see. I have a connection with that girl, and I know we’ll meet again someday.”
Hannah didn’t even know Nerissa’s name, but she felt sure they were meant to cross paths again. When fate was involved, waiting didn’t matter.
Hannah and Riley chatted for a while, and then Hannah went upstairs for her afternoon nap.
Riley headed to the kitchen to plan the evening menu.
After she finished writing it out, she called over Kelly White, the personal caregiver who’d been looking after Hannah for years.
Riley said, “Kelly, my mom is getting older, and sometimes her judgment isn’t what it used to be. Keep a close eye on her, and make sure no one from the outside takes advantage of her. If you notice anything unusual, contact me right away.” Kelly nodded. “Of course, Ms. Stratford. I’ll watch carefully.”
Riley had always known how to win people over. After going through a few more instructions, she casually handed Kelly a stack of bills. “I heard your son’s getting married soon. This is just a little something from me.”
“Thank you.”

Meanwhile, over at Jamison Manor, Kennedy was coming home from the hospital today.
To celebrate his recovery, Hunter put on his reading glasses and bustled around the kitchen, trying to decide what to cook for dinner.
“Grandpa.” Nerissa pushed through the front door.
“Nerissa’s home!” Hunter immediately pulled off his glasses and beamed at her. “You must be hungry. I’ll start cooking right away.”>
Nerissa followed him into the kitchen and turned on the faucet to wash her hands, “Grandpa, I need to tell you something.”
“What is it?” Hunter asked.
“I found a three-bedroom place in Building 5, right here in our complex,” Nerissa said. She could tell Hunter might object, so she quickly added, “I already paid the rent and deposit.”
A three-bedroom would be more comfortable, sure, but it’d cost over three hundred dollars each month than their current two-bedroom.
Hunter’s brow furrowed slightly. “Nerissa, I’m fine sleeping in the living room. Why waste the money? You’re starting college next year, and you’ll have plenty of expenses coming up. Every dollar needed to count.
“The living room’s not a bedroom, Grandpa,” Nerissa said. “And don’t worry about the money. Your granddaughter’s got skills now. I’ve been making games, trading stocks, investing in funds. I’ve made quite a bit lately. Oh, here’s your bank card
back.”
If Hunter checked his bank balance right now, he’d be shocked to find that his account had jumped from ten thousand to a hundred thousand dollars-ten times what he’d
“The card’s yours now, so keep it,” Hunter said.
Successfully unlocked!
Nerissa shoved the bank card into Hunter’s pocket. “Grandpa, I might not be rolling in money yet, but I’ve got enough to get

Hunter couldn’t argue with Nerissa, so he slipped the card into his pocket. “Just promise me you’ll tell me if you need anything.”
“I promise,” Nerissa said with a nod.
Around five that evening, Kennedy came home from the hospital with his luggage in hand. After weeks of recovery, he no longer needed the wheelchair.
At dinner, Nerissa brought up the topic of the move.
Nerissa asked, “Kennedy, our lease is almost up, so I rented a three-bedroom place. Want to move in with us?”
Kennedy smiled warmly, “I’d love to, but I won’t be staying long-maybe two or three months max. You’ll probably have to find another roommate after I leave.”
“That’s fine. We’re only using the place in Building 5 as a temporary stop anyway,” Nerissa said. “Grandpa and I are planning to move again soon.”
“Where are you guys moving to?” Kennedy asked, surprised.
“We’re moving to Oak Villa Estate, near Yiorlian School,” Nerissa said.
Kennedy froze for a second and asked uncertainly, “Wait, isn’t Oak Villa Estate that fancy neighborhood with all the mansions?”
“Yeah, it is.” Nerissa nodded.
Kennedy pressed on. “The rent there must be insane, right?”
‘Can Hunter and Nerissa really afford that?’ he thought.
“We’re not renting. I’m buying Grandpa a villa so he can retire in comfort,” Nerissa said casually.
‘Buying? Retire?’ Kennedy’s eyes went wide. He said, “Nerissa, do you have that kind of money?”
“Not right now, but I will soon,” Nerissa said.
‘Not right now? But soon?’ Kennedy thought. He realized Nerissa was just talking big, so he raised his glass and said, “Well, I’ll drink to that. Hope you make it happen and give your grandpa the good life.”
Obviously, Kennedy didn’t take Nerissa’s talk about buying a villa seriously.
‘How could a young girl like her afford a place that costs millions?’ he thought. ‘She’s just dreaming.’
Hunter didn’t take his granddaughter’s words to heart either.
As far as he was concerned, the fact that she had this kind of intention was already good enough, and whether she actually bought a villa didn’t matter.
Hunter turned to Kennedy and changed the subject. “Kennedy, you said you’re moving in two or three months. Where are you heading?”
“Back to my hometown,” Kennedy said, taking a sip of his drink. “My nephew called me a few days ago and told me things have really picked up back there.
“They’re tearing down my old house for redevelopment, and I’ll get some compensation for it. I’m planning to retire there. When you get old, you want to go back to your roots, you know?”
By the end, Kennedy’s eyes were filled with longing.

Hunter had the next day off, so he got up early to handle the move
Luckily, they were staying in the same complex, and neither he nor Nerissa had much furniture. Besides clothes and kitchen supplies, there wasn’t much to pack, so they finished everything in just two or three hours.

Meanwhile, across town, Lennox wrapped up a meeting in his study and sent his secretary, Melinda Walker, a text: [Replace the iced coffee in my car fridge with Coke and smoothies.]
Melinda blinked at her screen and rubbed her eyes. She rechecked the sender-it was definitely Lennox. She typed back quickly: [All the cars?]
Lennox: [Yes.]
Melinda stared at her phone in disbelief. ‘What the hell happened to him?’ she thought.

He’d always hated smoothies and anything carbonated. He lived on two iced coffees a day to stay sharp, and now he
wanted Coke and smoothies instead.
It was crazy.
Over at Calloway Group, Owen listened to his subordinate’s report and frowned hard. ‘Solved? Kinsbeat Game actually solved their financial crisis?”
“Yes, sir. From what we’ve gathered, they resolved the crisis about a week ago. The man nodded, and his expression showed the same confusion Owen felt.
Given Kinsbeat Game’s current situation, no investment bank would be willing to risk filling that 30 million dollar gap Owen rubbed his temples, and exhaustion crept into his features. He’d planned to play the waiting game and swoop in to acquire Kinsbeat Game at a bargain price once they’d taken a hard enough hit.
He never expected them to actually resolve their financial crisis.
He thought, ‘Who could it be? Who the hell was helping Kinsbeat Game?’
Yale smiled and spoke up. “Owen, you don’t need to worry about this. Kinsbeat Game’s barely hanging on right now, and even with someone backing them, they probably won’t make it through this crisis. Why stress over it?”
He paused, and something seemed to occur to him. “Besides, you’ve still got Nerissa, right? She joined Kinsbeat Game as your inside person just to impress you, so she definitely knows what’s really going on. Just message her on WhatsApp and ask her what the situation is over there.”
