Dumped Then Claimed By A Billionaire (Nerissa and Owen) novel Chapter 54

Chapter 54 Humiliated

When Nerissa walked in, Yale’s eyes went wide. He was sure she wouldn’t show up.

After all, Nerissa had seemed completely over Owen. She’d moved on, or at least that’s what everyone thought.

But now here she was at Owen’s engagement party.

‘I gave her too much credit,’ Yale thought. ‘Owen was right about her all along. Everything she did before was just playing hard to get, trying to make Owen chase her.’

Yale stared at Nerissa with pure disappointment in his eyes. He couldn’t understand why she kept clinging to Owen. He thought, ‘Can’t she just live her own life?’

Showing up at an event like this was basically asking to be humiliated.

Yale glanced at Owen and couldn’t help but say, “Owen, you really do know Nerissa best. She’s completely obsessed with you.”

Owen’s eyes lit up with satisfaction, and he didn’t even try to hide it. ‘Just wait,’ he thought. ‘Kinsbeat Game is about to be mine.’

If Nerissa came here tonight to break up this engagement, she wouldn’t come empty-handed. Owen figured she’d already drawn up the stock transfer agreement for Kinsbeat Game and brought it with her.

Kaia walked a few steps closer to them. “Yale, what do you think Nerissa’s going to do next?”

Yale crossed his arms and watched Nerissa in the crowd. “A dog never changes, right? She’ll do what she always does, like cry, make a scene, throw a tantrum.”

That was what Nerissa used to do all the time back when she lived with the Calloway family.

“Exactly.” Kaia pulled out her phone. “I’m gonna record her pathetic ass throwing herself at Owen and post it on Tik Tok. Everyone needs to see how desperate she is for him.”

The more Kaia thought about it, the more excited she got. She wasn’t just going to record Nerissa making a fool of herself. She was going to make Nerissa apologize to her.

Based on how obsessed Nerissa was with Owen, she’d definitely apologize today.

Nerissa was getting closer now, and Owen straightened up with that superior look on his face.

He wasn’t going to forgive her easily today. He wanted Nerissa to understand what happened when you crossed him. But then Owen’s smug smile froze, and his face went pale.

Because Nerissa walked right past him and kept going.

She didn’t even glance at him during the whole thing. It was like Owen didn’t exist at all.

Owen’s hands clenched into fists, and veins bulged on his face. ‘What the hell is she doing?’ he thought. ‘Still playing hard to get? I’m so done with this. When is she gonna stop with these games?’

Yale noticed something and looked at Nerissa, then turned to Owen. “Owen, I think we got this wrong. Nerissa doesn’t look like she’s here for you. She looks like she’s heading to Building B for the party.”

Nerissa had shown up, but her whole vibe was nothing like someone coming to beg Owen to get back together.

Kaia heard that and let out a cold laugh.

Her eyes filled with contempt. “Building B? Yale, what are you even thinking? Do you know whose party is happening in Building B? It’s Faye Penhaligon’s 18th birthday celebration. The Penhaligons didn’t even invite me, so why would they invite some country bumpkin?”

The Penhaligons were old money through and through. They’d just relocated from Butterwood to Aosthorne, and every powerful family in the city was dying to get close to them but couldn’t.

Kaia had made a name for herself in elite circles thanks to Owen. She’d networked hard and befriended plenty of wealthy heiresses, but even she hadn’t received an invitation from the Penhaligons. Nerissa didn’t stand a chance.

‘Compared to me, Nerissa is nothing; Kaia thought. ‘She’s not worth a single strand of my hair. There’s no way the Penhaligons would invite her. It’s absolutely ridiculous.’

Yale frowned slightly at Kaia’s words. “But bes Successfully unlockedling reception, the only other event here tonight

is the Penhaligons’ party.”

And Nerissa was walking in the direction of the Penhaligon ballroom.

Kaia said bluntly, “So obviously Nerissa came here looking for Owen. She’s Just pretending to be a Penhallgon guest so she can sneak into their party and make herself look important.”

She shot a vicious glare at Nerissa’s retreating figure. “Ugh. Shameless country trash. Does she really think the Penhaligons’ party is that easy to crash? Just wait. Their security is gonna throw her out any second now.”

‘Country bumpkin will always be a country bumpkin, she thought coldly. ‘So naive. If the Penhaligons’ party was that easy to sneak into, why would they bother with invitations?”

The entrance to the Penhaligon ballroom looked unguarded, but it actually had facial recognition technology.

The moment someone tried to enter illegally, alarms would go off.

Just as Nerissa reached the entrance, two figures emerged from the main hall.

One wore a sharp suit with an air of shrewd intelligence, and the other was draped in a champagne-colored evening gown that radiated elegance and grace. It was Faye’s parents, Hendry and Diana.

Kaia’s eyes lit up. “Owen, look! Mr. and Mrs. Penhaligon just came out. Oh my God, Diana looks so young. You’d never guess she has two kids.”

Owen immediately looked up at her words.

He’d met Hendry and Diana once at a business cocktail party, but things had been too rushed that night, and he hadn’t gotten a chance to properly greet them.

‘Tonight’s Faye’s eighteenth birthday celebration, he thought. ‘Hendry and Diana should be inside entertaining their guests right now. Why would they suddenly show up at the entrance?’

Then it clicked. ‘They must be here specifically to congratulate me and Audrey on our engagement. Yeah, that has to be it. There’s no other explanation for why both Hendry and Diana would appear here at the same time.’

He sneered inwardly, ‘They couldn’t possibly be here to welcome some country bumpkin like Nerissa, right?’

The thought that Diana and Hendry had taken time out of their busy schedules to personally bless his engagement with Audrey filled Owen with pride.

After tonight’s engagement party, he’d definitely dominate the front page of Aosthorne’s financial news again.

After all, plenty of reporters were stationed here right now, hungry for explosive stories.

Owen flashed a confident smile and walked toward Hendry and Diana. “Mr. and Mrs. Penhaligon, thank you so much for gracing my engagement party with your presence.”

The photographers standing nearby immediately perked up. “Quick, get this! Turns out Mr. Calloway actually knows Mr. and Mrs. Penhaligon!”

The Penhaligon family was the elite of Butterwood. Owen’s connection with them was basically a golden ticket straight into Butterwood’s business circles.

The reporters thought, ‘Owen really lives up to his reputation as the financial world’s once-in-a-decade rising star. He actually managed to win over the notoriously difficult Penhaligon family, and now he’s even got Hendry and Diana showing up in person to congratulate him. This is incredible.’

The reporters weren’t the only ones shocked. Every guest at the event felt the same way.

With so many cameras pointed at him, Owen’s pride swelled, and he straightened his spine even more. He wanted to look his absolute best for tomorrow’s front page.

But his expression changed fast. The blood drained from his face, and he nearly passed out on the spot.

Hendry and Diana walked right past him like he didn’t exist. They headed straight for Nerissa and greeted her with respectful tones. “Ms. Jamison, welcome. We’re so glad you finally made it.”
