Chapter 62

Chapter 62

Lennox saw the book’s title.

Lennox was speechless. He tossed the book back to Luke with a look of utter distaste.

“What’s this mess? I only read books about finance,” he said.

He was not the kind of guy who read whatever was lying around.

Luke snatched the book back. “Uncle Lennox, I’ve read this one myself, tried and tested! The stuff in here is great for attracting girls. Just take a look and you’ll see.”

Lennox shot him a sideways glance. “You think I’m like you? Always wasting your energy on stuff that doesn’t matter?”

He was not the type to chase after girls.

And he sure as hell wouldn’t read something like that.

“Just take it, Uncle Lennox,” Luke insisted, shoving the book back into Lennox’s hand. “Trust me, reading it won’t do you any harm.”

Lennox took the book in his hand.

Without another word, he lifted his arm.

Bang!

He tossed the book straight into the trash can three meters away.

Nailed it, dead center in the trash.

Luke couldn’t believe it. “Uncle Lennox, if you don’t take this chance, don’t come crying to me when you regret it.”

With that, Luke left the gym.

Lennox picked up his dumbbells and got back to his workout.

Luke had just made it downstairs when Riley stopped him.

“Luke, how’d it go? Did Lennox take the book?” she asked.

Luke shook his head. “He tossed it straight into the trash.”

Riley just rolled her eyes. “He’s so clueless. Can’t chase girls to save his life. Even when someone tries to help, he doesn’t even give a damn,” she muttered, feeling exasperated.

That was it.

Riley was the one who had told Luke to give Lennox the book, but Lennox totally ignored the gesture. ‘Seriously, what’s his problem?’ Riley thought.

Just then, Hannah strolled over. “Riley, you’re so behind the times! Seriously, what era are you living in? Still believing in that whole ‘life-saving debt means you have to marry them’ trope?”

Of course, Hannah was grateful to Nerissa for saving Lennox.

But when it came to picking a wife for Lennox…

She already had her own candidate in mind.

Hannah was still hung up on that girl she’d seen at the hospital last time.

Her values were solid, and she was really grounded.

She was drop-dead gorgeous.

Her presence was something else, just totally captivating.

The more Hannah thought about her, the more she liked her. Sometimes, Hannah would even dream about her and wake up literally smiling.

Riley turned to Hannah with a smile. “Mom, you just haven’t met Ms. Jamison yet. If you did, I bet you’d be just like me, wanting to bring her home as Lennox’s wife right away.”

Nerissa was honestly the most amazing girl Riley had ever met. She was hands down the perfect wife for Lennox.

“Well, I’m not outdated like you,” Hannah said, rolling her eyes at Riley. She declared, “Even if Ms. Jamison were an angel sent from heaven, I still wouldn’t play matchmaker for her and Lennox. No way I’m getting in cahoots with you on this!”

Riley just grinned. “Don’t be so sure, Mom. What if you end up liking Ms. Jamison yourself, and want her as your daughter-in-law, just like I do?”

“No way!” Hannah retorted, pointing at the dog sprawled on the floor. “If I ever end up like you, I might as well be a spotted mutt!”

Riley raised her eyebrows. “I’ll hold you to that, Mom.”

On the third floor,

Lennox wrapped up his workout in the gym.

Then he headed back to his room for a shower.

But just as he reached the door, something seemed to cross his mind.

‘If I’m hiding anything, it’s just… a book,’ he thought wryly.

‘Alright, let’s see if he’s really hiding someone, Luke thought, and bolted straight for the bathroom.

He was hell-bent on uncovering this mysterious “girl” Lennox might be stashing away.

He flung the bathroom door wide open.

But nope, totally empty.

Next, he yanked open the closet door.

No one.

Luke checked under the desk.

Still no one.

He even peeked under the bed. Still no one.

Luke rubbed his chin, thinking, ‘Could Uncle Lennox really be hiding someone on the bed?’

That idea made him even more curious.

So, while Lennox wasn’t paying attention, Luke suddenly whipped the blanket off the bed.

Right then,

Lennox’s heart skipped a beat.

But just as quickly,

he finally breathed easy.

There was nothing on the bed either.

‘Good thing I stashed the book under the mattress instead of just shoving it under the covers,’ Lennox thought, relieved.

Luke looked even more baffled. “Seriously, there’s nothing here! Uncle Lennox, what are you acting so suspicious for?”

This time, Lennox was completely at ease. He sat calmly on the couch, and said with a faint smile, “People with a guilty conscience see trouble everywhere.”

Luke scratched his head.

‘Was I just imagining things?’ he wondered.

“Uncle Lennox, come on, get dressed. Everyone’s waiting for you downstairs,” Luke called out.

“Yeah, I heard you. Just get out,” Lennox replied, his tone flat and unconcerned.

Luke turned and left.

It wasn’t until the door closed that Lennox finally relaxed.

He walked over to the bed, pulled the book out from under the mattress, thinking, ‘I need to hide this somewhere.’

‘I’ll read it slowly later,’ Lennox told himself.

‘Where should I stash it?’ he wondered.

Lennox looked around, but nowhere felt truly safe. In the end, he sandwiched the book right between his finance books. After all, the only one who ever came into his room was Luke, and Luke hated finance books the most.

Once the book was safely stashed, Lennox finally headed downstairs, taking his sweet time.

In Minttown.

At the Berenson family estate, Mrs. Berenson was busy organizing her jewelry box in the living room when the butler’s voice came from outside the door.

“Mrs. Berenson, they are back.”

Eight men strode into the living room.

Mrs. Berenson looked up at once, unable to hide her worry. “Well? Any news about Arie?”

Victor Berenson, leading the group, shook his head. “Mom, that girl isn’t Arie.”

Mrs. Berenson and Mr. Berenson had eight sons and one daughter, and every single one of them was a standout, a true powerhouse in the financial world.

After their sons got married, they ended up with thirteen grandsons, but not a single granddaughter. It wasn’t until their youngest daughter and her husband had Ariel that Mrs. Berenson finally got her dream come true, a granddaughter at last.

So when Ariel was born, she wasn’t just the apple of the Sullivan family’s eye, she was the absolute center of the Berenson family’s universe.

Mrs. Berenson would do anything to shower her precious granddaughter with the very best this world had to offer.

And those eight uncles? They had always doted on Ariel so much.

Kindowen and Butterwood were thousands of miles apart. Ariel’s eight uncles had gone all out, pooling their money to buy her a private jet worth a jaw-dropping 1.4 billion dollars, just so their precious niece could

travel in absolute luxury.

So what did 1.4 billion dollars even look like?

Well, for a regular person, even if he hit the lottery for 1.6 million bucks every single day, he’d have to win nonstop for three years straight just to scrape together that kind of fortune!

Even now,

that private jet was still parked at Kindowen International Airport.

All these years, the Berenson family had never stopped searching for Charlotte and Ariel. No matter how tiny the clue, at the slightest sign of hope, they’d cross mountains and oceans, traveling halfway around the world just to run a DNA test.

Half a month ago, Mrs. Berenson had heard rumors about a young girl in another city who sounded just like her precious Arie.

As soon as these eight uncles got wind of it, they dropped whatever they were doing, no matter how busy they were. Some of them even rushed back from overseas just to check things out in person.

They had thought they’d finally have some good news to share this time.

But fate had other plans…

Mrs. Berenson’s eyes went red as she lost control, her hand shaking and sending the jewelry box tumbling to the floor. “Why isn’t it her? Why not her? God, where is my Arie? Where’s my precious girl?”
