Dumped Then Claimed By A Billionaire (Nerissa and Owen) novel Chapter 61

Chapter 61

Kane was completely stunned by the slap.

He couldn’t even process what just happened.

‘What is going on?’ he thought, utterly dazed.

‘Nerissa is Ms. Jamison?’

‘How could that be?’

‘If Nerissa is Ms. Jamison, then what am I gonna do now?’ Kane thought, panic surging through him.

His mind was spinning, cold sweat pouring down his back, and he was shaking all over, nearly blacking out.

Hunter, Lane, and Michael were all stunned too.

Nobody had expected things to flip like this.

Just moments ago, Kane had been strutting around like he owned the place, and now he’d just gotten slapped across the face.

And Nerissa…

She was actually the Ms. Jamison Darren had been talking about!

Darren was the head of the property management for the Hillside Estates.

He was also a relative of Kane’s.

Normally, he acted like he was better than everyone else.

But today, he was treating Nerissa with the utmost respect.

Could Nerissa actually know an even bigger boss than Darren?

Just then, Darren walked over to Nerissa, bowing his head in apology. “Ms. Jamison, I’m so sorry I didn’t manage my staff properly.”

Then he turned to Kane and barked, “Get over here and apologize to Ms. Jamison, now!”

Kane’s feet felt heavy as stone, and his face turned completely ashen.

Inside, he was a whirlwind of mixed emotions, absolutely drowning in regret.

He never could’ve imagined that one day, Hunter and Nerissa would be the ones calling the shots over him.

Before Kane even realized it, he was standing right in front of Nerissa, his voice shaky and full of regret as he stammered, “Ms. Jamison, I… I’m sorry.”

Nerissa didn’t even bother to look at Kane. She turned to Darren and said, “Honestly, your management is a joke. If your staff is this useless, why are they still on your payroll?”

Her words were simple.

Yet she put both Kane and Darren on blast.

Darren was sweating bullets.

‘Guess the new boss is really shaking things up,’ he thought.

It seemed the first target was him.

Kane was toast today.

When Nerissa said that, Kane found her knees weak and he collapsed to his knees with a thud right in front of Hunter.

“Hunter, no, Mr. Jamison! I’m so sorry! I apologize for what I did the other day! It was all my fault. Please, forgive me this once!” Kane begged, his voice trembling with desperation.

Kane was regretting everything so hard it hurt, slapping himself across the face as he spoke.

The slaps were loud.

He wasn’t holding back at all.

He’d just snagged this cushy position at the property management office thanks to Darren pulling some strings. All he had to do was wander around the complex, and he was making bank, nearly three thousand dollars a month, for doing basically nothing.

Besides, he was pushing forty, and jobs weren’t exactly falling into his lap anymore.

That was why.

Losing this job was simply not an option.

Seeing that Hunter wasn’t saying a word, Kane turned to Michael and Lane, desperation written all over his face. “Michael, Lane, I know I screwed up. Please, help me out and say something nice to Mr. Jamison for me!”

Michael snorted, “Now you realize you messed up? Too late! Where was this attitude when it actually mattered?”

Lane nodded, “Yeah, you made Hunter clean up your shoes. Did you ever think about today then? Let’s be real, it’s only because Nerissa turned out to be someone important. If she was just a regular kid, would you be down on your knees groveling to Hunter right now? You’re not sorry. You’re just scared you’re gonna lose that cushy job of yours!”

Lane’s words hit the nail on the head.

At first, seeing Kane on his knees, crying his heart out, Hunter actually felt a little sorry for him. But after

hearing Lane’s words and remembering how Kane had acted all high and mighty just a few days ago, all that sympathy disappeared in a flash.

Darren shot Kane a cold look and said, “Kane, you broke the rules big time. You’re fired, effective immediately. Don’t even think about coming back to work.”

Kane’s world came crashing down. He grabbed onto Hunter’s leg, bawling his eyes out. “Mr. Jamison, I know I messed up! I’m so sorry! Just tell me what you want. I’ll do anything! Please, just forgive me this once! I promise, I’ll never do anything like this again!”

“Let go of Mr. Jamison! Seriously, how shameless can you get?” Lane and Michael each grabbed one of Kane’s arms and dragged him off.

Darren bowed respectfully. “Ms. Jamison, please, step inside.”

Nerissa turned to Hunter. “Let’s go, Grandpa.”

Then she glanced over at Michael and Lane, who were standing nearby. “Grandpa Michael, Grandpa Lane, let’s go in.”

“Right behind you, Nerissa!” Michael and Lane called out.

They pulled away from Kane and quickly fell in step behind Nerissa.

They entered the office.

Nerissa gave Darren a few instructions, and then said, “Can you find some easy jobs for Grandpa Michael and Grandpa Lane?”

Darren smiled. “Actually, the cleaning department and the landscaping department are both short on supervisors. The job’s mostly just checking on cleanliness and attendance. The pay is about two thousand dollars a month. Would that work for you two?”

Michael and Lane nodded right away. “That’s perfect! No problem at all!”

They had never imagined they’d actually score a supervisor gig.

Usually, Kane had all those cushy jobs locked down for his men.

‘Just as I thought!’ Michael and Lane thought to themselves.

‘Having someone in high places really does make a difference,’ they both thought.

‘Hunter’s granddaughter is seriously something else!’ they couldn’t help but think.

Darren nodded. “Alright, it’s settled. You two head home, get yourselves ready, and swing by at 1 PM to handle the onboarding paperwork. Sounds good?”

“Absolutely!” they both nodded eagerly, and then turned to Nerissa. “Nerissa, thank you so much!”

Nerissa gave a gentle smile. “Grandpa Michael, Grandpa Lane, honestly, I should be thanking you instead.

In a world where everyone was out for themselves, such pure and sincere loyalty was a rare blessing. Seeing Hunter surrounded by friends like that genuinely warmed Nerissa’s heart.

Lane grinned and said, “Come on, Nerissa, you don’t have to thank us. Hunter and us, we’re old friends.”

“That’s right!” Michael jumped in. “We’ve been friends with Hunter for ages. Of course we’d stick up for him! Besides, he’s always treated us like family.”

After their new jobs were sorted out, Michael and Lane headed home to get ready, since they had to come back at 1 PM to start work.

Seeing Nerissa hook up jobs for his two old friends, Hunter started getting a little restless. “Nerissa, can you ask Mr. Davis to set me up with something too? I can’t stand being stuck at home all the time!”

Nerissa chuckled. “From now on, you’re the boss of Double Excellence Property Management. Bosses don’t do the grunt work themselves, you know?”

Nerissa had bought Double Excellence Property Management just to keep Hunter busy and make sure he wouldn’t get bored at home.

After all, old folks just couldn’t sit still for long.

Hunter’s eyes

widened. “Boss?”

Nerissa nodded with a smile. “That’s right, Grandpa. Double Excellence Property Management belongs to me

now.”

Hunter’s eyes widened even more.

‘You… bought the whole company?’ he blurted out, totally floored.

‘God!’ he thought, his mind spinning.

“Nerissa, you’re not messing with me, are you?” Hunter blurted out, still reeling.

He’d figured Nerissa just happened to know Darren, so Darren was doing her a favor. But now, she was telling him she’d actually bought the entire company herself.

It felt totally surreal

Darren said respectfully, “Mr. Jamison, Ms. Jamison’s not joking. She really did buy out our company. From now on, we’ll be looking to you for guidance.”

Hunter was still reeling, turning to Nerissa with a look of disbelief. “Nerissa! Me, a boss? Come on, I’m not boss material at all!”

“Of course you are, Grandpa! That’s what Mr. Davis is here for. If anything pops up, just let him handle it. You just keep an eye on things, maybe water your flowers, do some exercise, and enjoy yourself,” Nerissa said with a grin. Hunter was at the point in life where he deserved to just kick back and take it easy.

Darren couldn’t help but look at Hunter, envy written all over his face.

‘Man, if I could have a granddaughter like Nerissa!’ he thought.

Then Hunter and Nerissa left Double Excellence Property Management.

Hunter looked at Nerissa, finally blurting out the question that had been eating at him. “Nerissa, what’s really going on? Where’d you get the cash to buy out the whole property business?”

Nerissa smiled. “Grandpa, like I said, I came back to make sure you live a good life. This past year, I picked up a ton of new skills, and I’m way better at making money than you ever imagined. This is just the beginning. Things are only going to get better for us from here!”

Hunter finally realized that his granddaughter hadn’t just been bragging all this time. She really was the real deal. ‘So Nerissa wasn’t just blowing smoke after all,’ he thought, still a little stunned.

Meanwhile,

at the Calloway family’s place,

Owen had been working late into the night, finally crashing around 3 AM, so he ended up sleeping in until

10:30.

As soon as he woke up, the first thing he did was grab his phone.

A whole night had passed.

‘Bet Nerissa blew up my phone with paragraphs pouring her heart out to me,’ Owen thought, grinning to himself.

He took his phone and saw a dozen or so WhatsApp notifications on the screen.

Owen smiled as he immediately sat up in bed.

‘I knew it.’ Owen thought with a smirk.

‘Nerissa probably blew up my phone with those long, sappy paragraphs,’ he mused.

Owen unlocked his phone and tapped straight into WhatsApp.

But the next second, Owen was stunned.

It turned out, none of the messages were from Nerissa.

Not only did Nerissa not send him a single message,

she didn’t even bother to accept his friend

request.

Nerissa hadn’t sent him a single word, let alone those long, sappy paragraphs he was expecting.

Chapter 61

She totally ignored him.

All 18 WhatsApp messages were from Audrey.

[Morning, Owen! Did you wake up yet? I made you some soup, just for you!]

[Here is a photo of the soup.]

[It’s homemade, promise!]

[So, do you prefer sweet or savory?]

[Owen, why aren’t you texting me back?]

[Owen?]

[Owen, where are you?]

[Can you please reply to me?]

There were more messages.

Normally, Owen would’ve replied to Audrey right away.

But now, things were different.

All those messages from Audrey were just getting on Owen’s nerves. He couldn’t care less about her. His mind was now stuck on one thing. Why hadn’t Nerissa accepted his friend request yet?

Just when Owen thought he couldn’t get any more annoyed, his phone buzzed with another message from Audrey.

[Owen, where are you right now?]

Owen just shut off his phone, choosing to avoid it all.

‘Why the hell hasn’t Nerissa accepted my friend request yet?’ Owen fumed, totally baffled.

‘This is so not her style!’ he muttered, feeling more and more annoyed.

‘She’s crazy about me, always has been!’

‘No way she’d just ignore me like this, right?’

Owen scratched his head, frustration mounting. Suddenly, a thought popped into his mind.

‘Wait, that’s gotta be it! I probably screwed up sending the friend request, so Nerissa never even got it. Yeah, that explains everything!’ Owen told himself, instantly feeling better.

Owen quickly unlocked his phone, jumped to the add friends page, punched in Nerissa’s number, and fired off another friend request.

Owen let out a sigh of relief.

‘This time, there’s no way anything can go wrong, he thought, feeling confident.

Stratfordland.

Lennox was hitting the gym.

He was shirtless, showing off a sculpted chest and a set of ripped eight-pack abs. A sheen of sweat made his body look even more irresistible. With a white towel slung over his shoulder, tiny beads of sweat slid down his torso, slipping into places only imagination could reach.

Luke pushed the door open and got an eyeful of Lennox’s killer body.

Luke looked down at himself, making a quick comparison.

‘Man… he sighed.

‘People always say nephews take after their uncles,’ Luke thought, a little bitter.

‘How come I don’t have any abs?’ he wondered, feeling totally cheated by genetics.

‘Seriously, that’s just not fair!’ he grumbled to himself.

‘Why can’t I have abs too?’ Luke whined.

“Uncle Lennox,” Luke called out, his tone a mix of respect and envy.

“Speak,” Lennox said, lifting a 22-pound dumbbell with one hand like it was nothing.

Luke continued, “Just a heads up, Uncle Lennox, Ms. Jamison’s coming by tomorrow to check up on you.”

“Yeah, I know,” Lennox replied, his tone flat.

“Hey, just between us, I’ve got a little surprise for you!” Luke said, squinting playfully.

“What?” Lennox replied, his tone calm as ever.

Luke pulled a book out from behind his back with a secretive look. “Uncle Lennox, check this out!”

Lennox took the book from him.
