“You’re saying she’s completely sincere toward me?”
Grace frowned, puzzled.
Hearing those words from Arnold sounded too much like he was trying to paint Aurora in a better light.
After all, she could still clearly remember Aurora standing right in front of her, saying she wanted to cut ties.
She would never forget that.
And she knew her daughter’s temperament well enough. How could Aurora ever say the things Arnold claimed?
From Grace’s point of view, he was simply trying to soften Aurora’s image.
She knew her own daughter. Aurora wasn’t someone who sweet-talked or used pretty words.
So, Grace didn’t buy any of this, and she wasn’t about to let anyone stand here and glaze over the truth.
“Madam Grace, why won’t you believe me?”
Arnold finally grew anxious.
He was telling the truth.
Why did she refuse to accept it?
And as a mother, how could she not believe her own child’s words? Didn’t she think that would hurt her daughter deeply?
Wasn’t that a failure on her part?
The thought alone made even Arnold feel disappointed in her.
“Madam Grace, have you really not considered the Miss Aurora’s feelings at all?”
Grace was taken aback.
“What do you mean, ‘consider her feelings’?”
She stood up, staring at him in disbelief.
“I only said what needed to be said. Are you telling me I’m not even allowed to express my opinion now?”
“Madam Grace, that’s not what I meant at all. I think you misunderstood me.
“I only hoped the two of you could clear things up. There’s no need for things to stay this tense.”
“Don’t worry. There’s no misunderstanding between us,” Grace said with a dismissive wave, already motioning him away.
“Alright, there’s nothing here that requires your attention. Go take care of your own tasks.”
Arnold felt a sting at her words.
He hadn’t expected her to disregard his feelings so easily.
He had served at her side for so many years.
He had always believed Grace was a kind and reasonable woman—someone who listened and gave people a chance to explain themselves.
But now, she was being harsher to her own daughter than anyone else.
“Since you’ve said that, Madam Grace, there’s nothing more I can say.”
