Hearing that, Grace’s tone turned sharp.
“So what, you’re saying meeting your own mother now requires an appointment?”
Tessa was speechless.
Her fingers tightened around her bag.
For a moment, she truly felt Grace was arguing for the sake of arguing, completely unreasonable.
But then she remembered the shares in Grace’s hands, and all she could do was swallow it down, again and again, not letting a single crack show.
“That’s really not what I meant. You misunderstood me.”
Tessa gave her a warm smile and even stepped behind her to knead her shoulders. “Mom, I just meant I’m grown now. If I build a career of my own, wouldn’t that make you proud?
“And when people talk about it, won’t they say it’s because I was raised well by my mother?”
She continued gently, “And if I actually achieve something, that credit goes to you more than anyone.”
Grace’s expression softened at once.
Tessa truly knew how to strike the right chords.
Just a few lines were enough to swing Grace’s mood from irritation to satisfaction.
Her lips even curved upward.
“You’re right. That does make sense.”
Then she looked at Tessa seriously.
“So tell me, have you run into any difficulties with this business of yours?”
“What do you mean by that?”
Tessa couldn’t quite follow her.
Grace patted the back of her hand.
“I mean, if you ever run into trouble, you can come to me. You’re my daughter. I couldn’t bear to watch you struggle or suffer.”
“If that person truly helps you, then he’s a blessing to our family—a real benefactor to our precious girl.”
Hearing that, Tessa finally let out a breath.
Maybe she really had overthought things.
Grace clearly didn’t know anything.
Was she the one imagining too much?
“There’s no benefactor. Just regular business partners, nothing special.”
Tessa pretended not to catch her mother’s deeper meaning.
“And honestly… the greatest blessing in my life is you, Mom. As long as you’re here, I feel safe.”
Grace couldn’t deny that Tessa really knew how to speak.
Every word hit right where it warmed her heart the most.
