He never said anything unnecessary and did anything out of line.
He kept every part of the household running flawlessly.
Because of that, Grace relied heavily on Arnold.
She always felt the stability of the household owed a great deal to him.
Working with him had always been effortless.
All these years, it had never even occurred to her to replace him. Maybe that was precisely why Arnold now dared to speak to her like this; her long-standing trust had slowly turned into the confidence that he could say anything.
She had indulged him far too much, letting him forget the difference between employer and employee.
If she had known it would come to this, she would have been stricter from the start, so he’d understand what respect truly meant.
Now Grace finally snapped.
“I think you’re trying to rebel. Do you even hear what you’re saying?”
“I’m saying this because I’ve been in this house for so many years. I know exactly what kind of person you are.”
Arnold showed not the slightest hint of fear.
“Madam Grace, after all these years, have you really never looked at your own faults?”
He gave her a weary look. “Think about everything Miss Aurora has endured. Have you ever truly cared about her?
“And then, for the sake of someone else’s child, you chose to treat your own daughter this way.”
His voice trembled as he spoke.
He genuinely ached for Aurora. He never imagined someone so young would be forced to endure so much.
Yet her own mother had shown no remorse, not even now. And in that moment, Arnold found Grace utterly pitiful.
Arnold couldn’t fathom how a shrewd woman like Grace still managed to accept this.
Sometimes he truly couldn’t understand how her mind worked.
She was so sharp when running a company, but in her personal life she had let herself be deceived entirely.
No, even an ordinary person wouldn’t have made such choices.
But she, the one managing a massive corporation, willingly volunteered to become someone else’s free caregiver.
“Even though I’ve never understood what goes on in your head, I know every word I’m saying today borders on rebellion.”
Arnold spoke solemnly about his own defiance.
“I know you’ll probably fire me for this. I have no other requests. I only ask that you treat Miss Aurora better from now on.”
