My wolf doubted, “IS THAT SO? WHAT ABOUT ANNA?” Right, Anna, with her love–hate relationship and tumultuous past with him? Although Xander himself said he doesn’t like females (and possibly likes males), I don’t believe nothing happened between them. Anna wouldn’t act that way. The most likely scenario is that they were in love, but due to some unspeakable reason, Xander unilaterally ended things, while Anna was still deeply in love with him. Liam also didn’t dare look at him. He rarely gossiped; this rare occurrence was caught red–handed. The two people who had been whispering about their boss were now terribly embarrassed.

Xander’s gaze swept over us coldly. “Stop cooking. Get a stool and buy some sunflower seeds. Let’s go sit and chat by the complex

entrance.”

I was speechless. So was Liam. He understood the sarcasm.

Kander turned away and left the kitchen.

I thought for a moment and followed him, all the way to the study. He went inside, then came out a moment later with a few items in his hand. He walked directly toward the entrance, with no intention of staying… He clearly only came to get something from the study.

As he was about to leave the foyer, I opened my mouth, intending to apologize. But I was flustered, and my breath hitched, “By…the way, dinner’s ready. Will you eat?”

Kander turned to the side, his beautiful, deep eyes curving into a half–smile as he stared at me.“No, I’m busy going on a blind date. What if I find my destined mate?”

I was speechless.

Kander left without looking back.

I deflated. Was he really this petty? I mentally replayed every word I had said, all polite and well–meaning.

Liam came out. “It’s okay. The young master isn’t that petty. He’ll forget about it tomorrow. Come and eat.”

I wasn’t as optimistic as him. But there was nothing I could do.

I found that offending him was as easy as breathing… slightly careless and I offended him.

I had little appetite for dinner. Midway through, my phone rang. This call was unexpected–it was my father–in–law.
