Chapter151
I was stunned. The entire mindkelt dizzying. Fonly understood that his “I’m sorry was for the things he said the first time I went into his bedroom.
So? Had my harsh boss suddenly developed a conscience? My wolf was soon filled with even more questions, “BUT WHAT DID THE FOLLOWING SENTENCES MEAN?” I went over and over it, dissecting each word he’d said. I think… I understood.
He was actually angry because I hadn’t gone into his room. He was furious with my hesitation, with my being his secretary yet so timid and filled with useless thoughts.
With that layer of understanding, the last two sentences made perfect sense: he would absolutely prevent anything from happening between us, he would absolutely not allow any rumors.
A wave of shame washed over me. I nodded solemnly. “I understand. You’re right. A clear conscience fears no accusations.” Xander’s wolf was so enraged it was on the verge of losing control, “YOU DONT KNOW SHIT!”
My mood was much better by the time I went downstairs. Xander was difficult, yes, very difficult, but at least he was willing to ower his posture and talk things out. That way misunderstandings wouldn’t arise.
In the middle of the night, half–asleep, I heard a text message notification. I rolled over, grabbed my phone, and opened it.
It was from Xander: Sophia Wells, remember to come to work tomorrow.
I was incredibly sleepy. In the darkness, I barely opened one eye, laboriously typing my reply: Okay, Boss.
I didn’t notice my finger had slightly slipped, shifting up a tiny bit… the ‘o‘ became a ‘a‘…. Under the keyboard’s auto–suggestions, “Okay, Boss” turned into… “Okay, Baby.”
After sending it, I closed the message box, tossed my phone aside, and fell back into a blissful sleep.
The next morning. Seven–thirty. Liam had already set out breakfast. The young master said he was going to the company today.
Normally, the young master would wake up at six for his morning run, be at the breakfast table by seven, reading the day’s financial news, then make calls or have video conferences in the garden, arriving at the company promptly at nine. But these past few days, he’d been injured, so his waking time had been pushed back.
It was eight o’clock, and he still hadn’t come out of his room. Zane arrived. Hearing that Mr. Shaw hadn’t woken up yet, he was surprised. “What happened last night? Did Mr. Shaw finally learn to hit the nightclubs?”
This was, of course, a joke. Even without his injury, our Mr. Shaw’s nightlife was as barren as a Buddhismonk’s.
Liam also clasped his hands in front of him, sighing in bewilderment, “It’s very strange. The young master never sleeps in.”
Neither of them dared to knock on the bedroom door.
It wasn’t until eight–thirty that Xander finally emerged from his bedroom, his pale face weary, as if he hadn’t slept well, with slight dark circles under his eyes.
Zane and Liam secretly cominunicating through the bond, “BOSS REALLY DIDI SNEAK OFF TO A NIGHTCLUB””
Xander ignored their gazes and walked to the dining room. The two men followed closely behind.
Xander sat at the dining table and ate breakfast. Zane thought he was in a bad mood and didn’t dare report today’s schedule, and Liam only silently served him breakfast.
Unexpectedly, Xander took a sip of juice and said with a smile, “Hmm, the juice is very delicious today.”
Zane:…
Liam:…
