Summer and I heard the first two sentences and wanted to say it was too late to eat. It’s just dumplings. We have things to talk about.
Hearing the rest… “WE HAVE TO EAT THESE DUMPLINGS!” my wolf cut me off.
‘Actually, I’m very hungry.”
‘Let’s eat. I haven’t had dumplings in a long time; I’m craving them,” Summer said.
‘I made a lot. Eat plenty later,” Liam said, smiling like a loving old father. He liked children who loved to eat.
Xander glanced at us. His wolf was speechless, “TWO GLUTTONOUS GIRLS.” He stepped into the elevator.
Summer and I followed. Liam was the last to get in, pressing the elevator button and chatting with us. The atmosphere was warm and friendly.
On the top floor, in the dining room, Liam served the dumplings. The aroma alone was heavenly.
Xander pushed his bowl towards me.“Aren’t you hungry? You can have mine too.”
His voice was gentle, tinged with teasing. For some reason, I sensed that he was in a good mood.
Summer looked back and forth between us, a smile she couldn’t suppress playing on her lips. Seeing that I didn’t respond mmediately, she said, “Mr. Shaw is willing to go hungry so you can eat your fill. Eat up.”
My wolf was going crazy, “DON’T MISINTERPRET!”
pushed the dumplings to the center of the table.“Summer, let’s share. I can’t eat two bowls.”
Summer was exasperated.
We lowered our heads and ate, the deliciousness overwhelming us. Dumpling after dumpling, broth after broth – it was so
:omforting.
Summer ate until tears welled up in her eyes.“These are so delicious. These are the best dumplings I’ve ever had.”
didn’t speak, just ate quietly. I ate in small bites but very quickly; Summer always said I ate like a hamster.
We were so full we could barely stand.
iam brought out two boxes.“Take these home and put them in the refrigerator. They won’t taste as good frozen, but they’re still better than store–bought ones.”
Summer and my wolf said in unison, ““BETTER IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT!”
We thanked him profusely and packed up the dumplings.
As we were about to leave, Xander suddenly said, “Ms. Grant, what did you want to tell Ms. Wells? Do you mind if I listen too?”
jummer, “Uh, this…”
Kander:“Is it a secret?”
Not really.” After a few seconds of hesitation, Summer decided to tell him because she thought it was better for him to know. “I vent to the hospital today, dressed as a nurse, trying to find evidence of Tanner faking an illness. I overheard the nurses saying… Tanner is pregnant.”
was silent.
Kander calmly said “Oh,” as if he understood.
