Chapter 5
“We’re done!”
“Julian!”
“I, Aurora Hale, doesn’t want you anymore” I looked straight at him, every word deliberate.
I turned to leave, but Julian grabbed my wrist. His face was ghost-white, twisted with panic.
“Aurora!”
“Let me explain!”
His hand was shaking so hard I could feel it. He looked like a kid caught red-handed, scrambling to pin everything on Lilac.
“I didn’t mean for this to happen, Aurora. She came onto me.”
“She got me drunk on that business trip and crawled into my bed. She said if I didn’t go along with it, she’d tell you everything and I’d lose you
forever. Aurora-” His eyes turned red. “I can’t lose you.”
“You know I love you, Aurora!”
“Aurora, I love you!”

“Julian.”
I pulled off my engagement ring and threw it in his face.
“You make me sick.”
I turned and walked to my car. Didn’t give him a chance to react. Got in, started the engine, and was about to drive off when Julian lost it. He picked up the ring and ran straight at me.
“Aurora!”
He threw himself in front of my car.

I watched him charge forward. His friends were screaming his name. Lilac ran after him like a lunatic, thinking I’d stop.
I didn’t.
I hit the gas.
Lilac grabbed Julian and yanked him to the ground just in time.
I glanced at them through the window-sprawled on the pavement, pathetic-and drove straight home.
Julian was my first love.
The only person I’d ever fallen for. I thought about when we first bought our place together. He insisted on putting only my name on the deed.
He told me.
“Aurora, what’s mine is yours. And what’s yours stays yours.”
