Eight Years of Maybe One Day of I Do—Bride Swapped Deal With It novel Chapter 126

Chapter 8

“But what we do have is a home waiting for you whenever you need it.”

“You’ll always be my daughter. My princess.”

The day after I moved back in with my parents, Julian showed up at the door. I didn’t see him. Just heard my dad yelling downstairs, then the sound of the door slamming shut. My mom walked in carrying a bowl of soup and said.

“Your dad sent him away.”

She sat down on the edge of my bed.

“We’ve already contacted his parents. Talked about calling off the engagement,” she said. “But Julian’s being stubborn. He still wants to go through with the wedding. He’s refusing to cancel.”

“But don’t worry.”

My mom was trying so hard not to upset me.

“We’ve already returned all the gifts. Whatever Julian does from now on-whoever he ends up with-it’s got nothing to do with us anymore.”

She pulled me into her arms and whispered softly.

“Aurora, it’s over now.”

All the hurt I’d been holding inside came pouring out the second she hugged me. I held onto her tight.

“I’m not mad at Julian for not being strong enough to protect what we had.”

“It’s just-” My eyes burned with tears. “It hurts so much. Why did it have to be Lilac?”

Why?

Why did it have to be my best friend and the person I loved most?

Why?

I couldn’t understand.

So every time I thought about the memories we’d all shared, it felt like a knife stabbing straight into my chest. The pain made it hard to breathe.

As the wedding date got closer, I still refused to answer Julian’s calls. His friends finally tried to talk some sense into him.

“Maybe just let it go, man.”

“The Hales returned everything. They’re not interested in working things out.”

One of his friends looked at him and couldn’t help but say.

“If you really loved Aurora, why the hell would you risk it all by screwing around with Lilac?”

Julian didn’t respond. His friend sighed. “Just think about it.”

He stared at the wedding venue I’d spent three months planning and felt like he was in a daze. He couldn’t figure out how things had gotten this bad.

He’d kept everything hidden so well. Everything had been under control. How did it all fall apart?

He thought back to that day outside the hotel. My face ghost-white as I confronted him. My voice hoarse from crying as I said.

“Julian, we’re done.”

“I don’t want either of you anymore.”

“Cheating scum and backstabbing bitches. You deserve each other.”

His chest felt like it was being stabbed with a dull knife, he could barely breathe. He was still trying to figure it out when he heard Lilac call his

name.

“Julian.”

Lilac stood in front of him, her eyes soft.

“Even without Aurora.”

“You still have me.”

He looked at her gentle face. The face he used to think was sweet and innocent now just made him feel tired.
