Wyatt and I walked silently the whole way into the kitchen. He was trying not to worry about the challenge, but I had zero concerns. I knew, even without any abilities, I could kick her ass. Wyatt pulled out a bar stool for me and I sat down while he rummaged through the fridge. He pulled out pasta and began to heat it up.
“Nina, you need to try not to use your abilities. We need to keep this hidden as long as possible. We still need to figure out how you blasted me the other day anyway. The rules don’t keep you from using them, but only in moments, need. You need to be diligent and focus on all your surroundings.” I could feel the worry and determination to prepare me. I let him go without interference. He needed this and I did enjoy being fussed over.
“Nina! There you are! I heard about the challenge and there was blood outside your door! What happened? Are you okay?”
“Girl!!! Calm down! I am perfectly fine! I was built to fight. Something about feeling a bone break under your fist is so satisfying!” I said, smiling, and Kelly laughed at me.
“I understand that too!” said Kelly.
Wyatt shook his head, placed a bowl of pasta in front of me and walked out.
“He isn’t happy, is he?”
“No, he is just worried I will get hurt.”
“I knew you would be good for him! He needs to learn some compassion!”
“It’s deep in there!” I said, laughing while I ate my food.
“But really, are you ready? Dad set out a full-pack mind-link, everyone has to attend. He wants everyone to witness you winning, so no one else challenges you. Like a thousand people will be there.”
“No pressure then” I said. That got me slightly nervous, but I still believe in my ability to fight. I was trained for this.
“Come on, it is time!” Kelly said and grabbed my hand and pulled me out the door. We walked around to the back of the house to the fighting grounds. Kelly wasn’t lying, there were thousands of people here. But where was Wyatt?
“Wyatt is with mom and dad. He can’t be with you right now, so that is why I am here. He has to remain partial. He did tell me to tell you, “that you can do this and he believes in you” as I do!” Kelly said. She guided me to the center of the ring and I saw Samantha there with her posse. I already put unconscious.
Maverick walks out, takes a megaphone and bellows out, “Challengers, please enter the mat!” There was a wrestling mat with a large red circle. “First round is human form only! If someone is rendered unconscious or submits, then the challenge is over. First round is 10 minutes. After that, I will yell shift and the second around is in wolf form till someone is either unconscious or submits.” Maverick lowered the megaphone, “Any questions?”
We both said no. “Any cheating will result in being disqualified.” He said, looking straight at Samantha.
“BEGIN!” Maverick yelled on the megaphone and stepped out.
Samantha crouched down and began to circle me. Rule one in a fight, never strike first. I watched as she circled me. I didn’t bother crouching down and I studied her movements. She was on the balls of her feet, knees bent and had a crazed look in her eyes.
“No one to hide behind now”, I mocked her. A pissed off person makes mistakes. “The sex is mind-blowing.”
I tuned out the crowd and cheering out and focused on her. Samantha lunged for me. I waited till the last second and dodged her strike and stuck my foot out, swiping her feet out from under her. Samantha landed on her back but quickly hoped up.
“You need to end this quickly” Raven said. “It is too early for me to shift. It is not safe”
I nodded and as she lunged again, blocked her punch, grabbed her neck and slammed her to the ground. Then I took her right arm. She was swinging around and rolled her to her stomach, pulling her arm around her, pushing it on her back with my knee shoved on her, keeping her in place. Maverick was lying down by her face waiting for a submission.
“Submit or I break your arm”
“Never!”
“Last chance!”
