I was only able to eat about half of the burger. My stomach was used to eating mush and a greasy burger was not ideal, but it was food. I did feel better and the water helped rehydrate me. I have to keep reminding myself not to chug it.

How much fucking longer till we are there? I really want clothes. A shower and shoes would be nice. I keep telling myself not to be bitter or ungrateful, as everyone is risking their lives for me. Sighing, I looked around. The trees were fully bloomed and flowers were showing off their rays of colors. The forest was incredibly thick. Moss covered the tree trunks, weeds blanketed the floor, and the vines of poison oak weaved beautifully, inviting anyone to dare to touch it. I loved the smell of the woods and it did help calm my nerves.

I started to get this feeling in the pit of my stomach. I stopped walking instantly and looked around. The guys stopped walking as well and were looking at me curiously. I just felt like something was coming toward us and it wasn’t friendly.

“Someone is coming toward us” I said, looking toward the east.

“We can’t be close to the pack yet?” Trevor said, looking around.

“It isn’t friendly” I said quietly. “Climb the trees, hopefully they won’t catch our scent.”

I ran to the nearest tree and climbed up. I saw the other guys do the same. About five minutes later, we could hear talking. I couldn’t make out what they said but I could hear laughter. The close and closer they got, the better I could hear.

“…much money for this?”

“50 grand! You know what we could do with 50 grand! All we need to do is find the bitch. We don’t even have to catch her, just give him the location!” a male said.

“We could get married and start a family!” A female said.

SLAP! I heard a distinct sound of an open hand hitting the flesh and a whimper following it “Bitch, learn your place. You will never be my wife, you are not my mate!” Another man said.

Sounds like there are three of them. They were headed straight for us, unfortunately.

“Yes Clive…” she said sadly.

“I bought you because you were a good lay and my mate has died already. Don’t make me kill you. You are nothing but good for sex! Understand?” He came into view. A man with long frizzy black hair and a beard to match was dragging a woman by her hair. It was all she could do to keep up. The second man was bald with a goatee with random tattoos covering his face. He lifted his nose up and started smelling. Shit, we are fucked, but we could take them but they need to die before they send any location out.

They were almost directly under me. I didn’t see exactly where the other guys went up but as soon as Justin dropped and landed on the guys back. He made quick work of snapping his neck. Trevor followed suit and did away with the other. I saw Trevor tense up when looking at the girl.

Climbing down from the tree, I looked at the girl more closely. She was a beautiful girl if it wasn’t for the bruises, blood and filth that covered her. She scurried against the tree. “PLEASE! Don’t kill me! I don’t mean any harm!”

“Mate” I heard whispered behind me. I turned and saw Trevor just white as a ghost.

Looking back at her, her eyes were widened and fear consumed her. How long had this poor girl been beaten and abused?

I crouched down beside her. She looked at me and back at Trevor. “I promise we will not hurt you. We do have some questions, okay?”

She didn’t respond, so I went ahead and asked a question. “What is your name?”

“Sarah,” she whimpered,

“If that your name you were born with?”

“No, that name is Bethany.”

“What happened to you?” I saw a fire light in her eyes.

“Hmm, that karma there.” I said laughing. I hope they all get killed for this. “Where are you from?”

“A small pack in Nebraska, The White Wolf pack. They were taken out about a year or so before I got sold.”

I started asking random questions to get to know her and help her relax. We chatted for a while before we fell into a comfortable silence. Justin’s phone started ringing. He looked at it and picked it up.

“Hello”

“Okay, be ready. We have two that need the hospital”

Justin nodded and hung up. Looking at us, he said, “We have about 20 more miles till we reach the boarders. There is a small army headed this way, in cars, to get us. The road is 5 miles to the west. We just need to make it there in 20 minutes.” He looked at us for a minute.

“It’s okay Nina, Trevor can help me” Bethany said and looked at Trevor nervously. “You will be here beside me, right?”

“Yes, Bethany, the whole way.”

Trevor walked quickly up to Bethany, “May I please place you on my back?”

She nodded and Trevor turned around and she climbed up, wrapping her arms around his neck and legs around his waist. She was a tiny thing at maybe 100 lbs, so I knew it wasn’t too much for him. Justin walked up to me, giving me a questioning look. Sighing, I nodded reluctantly and climbed up as well. The boys took off on a jog. Since we are wolves, our speed is faster than the average person.

We made it with about three minutes to spare. Bethany and I were placed just inside the tree line and the boys stood around us. None of them seemed to be out of breath. Justin walked up to the road as we heard the screeching of tires pulling off the road.
