Emerald Eyed Luna novel Nina (by Mrs.Smith) novel Chapter 56

“I…I am not sure exactly. I have a really bad feeling about this meeting. I know something is going to happen, I just don’t know what though.”

“NOTHING is going to happen to you! They will have to kill me first!” Wyatt said, very pissed as he cupped my face.

“I didn’t say something was going to happen to me, I just said something was going to happen.”

“Shit!” Reed said as he stood up.

“What is it?” Wyatt asked, standing up also

“A council member is here early” Reed said, looking very grimly at Kelly.

“That is five hours early!” Wyatt said angrily.

“It gets better, Zach said he is waiting in my office. He said there was an urgent matter he needed to speak to Nina about.” Everyone again looked straight at me like they expected me to start bawling or something.

“Well, let’s go see what he wants” I said, trying to sound indifferent as I stood up.

I felt all their concerns even though I have been trying to keep that damn door shut, but occasionally I lose focus and it gets cracked. Wyatt grabbed my hand and Reed grabbed Kelly’s and led us the way to his office. I wasn’t even paying attention to where we were going. I kept repeating my dad’s lesson in my head. Stone-faced, steady heart, showing nothing. Keep calm and don’t let them get to you. Be indifferent.

I ran into Kelly has they came to a stop. “Ouch, sorry” I said quietly. Wyatt had grabbed my waist and held me up.

“Are you sure you are okay with this?” He asked. Reed and Kelly turned to look at me.

“I don’t have a choice”. I took a deep breath and straightened my back. I nodded at Reed and he gave me back an approval nod.

He opened the door and walked in. I am not sure what I was expecting but this was not it. As soon as I walked in, I looked around to see who was all there. Zach and Trevor I knew, a couple guys I didn’t know but recognized from Reed’s warriors, and finally I saw him. On instinct, I stopped walking and stared at him. This caught the attention of everyone in the room, of course. I am pretty proud of myself for showing no emotions and keeping my heart steady though.

It was him, the guy that was following me at the mall and the guy I ran into from the other pack! He was sitting in Reed’s office without a care in the world! I heard someone cough, causing me to break eye contact and finish following Wyatt to our seat. He sat behind Reed’s desk with him. He pulled me to sit on his lap and Reed was sitting at his desk with Kelly on his lap. No one spoke for a minute.

“My name is Reed. I am the Alpha of this pack. I assume you already know that though, what do we owe this pleasure?” Reed said, sounding professional.

“Business,” He said. “I would like to speak with Nina alone.”

“Not happening!” Wyatt said firmly.

“I will tell our warriors to leave, that we will stay” Reed said.

The man nodded but looked very much annoyed. Everyone left and soon there were only five.

“Nina”, the man started. “My name is Grant.”

“Who are you?” I asked emotionlessly.

Wyatt sat back down and took a deep breath of my scent to help him calm down.

“The books said…” Kelly started.

“Ignore everything the books told you!” Grant interrupted. “Not everything you read was how it happened. Some are right but not all. Our family was not killed out of fear but out of jealously and the power-hungry alphas. They forced their mark on our daughters and said they were fated. They infiltrated our family and killed from the inside out believing they would get the title of king. The power did not transfer to them though, so they killed everyone in a fit of rage. They covered it up and said they abused their powers. It was self-defense and since no one was able to say differently, they got off.”

“They?” I asked, even though I felt like I knew the answer.

“The grandfathers of the council members,” Grant said, looking at me dead in the eyes.

After a very long pause, “Any one of them could be behind this” I said.

“Yes, unfortunately or all,” Grant said, looking at us. “During the meeting, I am not your friend and will not treat you as such. I have an appearance to keep up so I can keep doing what I need to. I will be on your side though. I will be back tomorrow and will be helping you train your abilities. I know you lost weight and muscle, but you need to gain it back quickly. Do NOT lose your temper at this meeting. Do not let them walk on you either, but try to let them think they will have an easy fight on their hands. They know a war is coming and they are preparing. You are better too.” Grant added, looking at Reed and Wyatt. Both nodded in understanding with firm eyes. “I will only be here tomorrow to get you started. You guys will have to take over once I am gone. I cannot stay here longer without it being suspicious. Here is my personal cell.” I laid a piece of paper on the desk. “Contact me through that. Only call for emergencies, otherwise text me, ‘Lilly’ and I will call you as soon as I can get away and have privacy.”

“Lilly?” I asked.

“My mother, your grandma. We will have a family tree lesson when this is over. I need to leave and get away from here before anyone else gets here. I have a reputation for being late.” With that, Grant stood up. He looked me straight in the eyes, “I will do everything in my power to protect you and get you through this, but you need to be ready. If you are meant to be queen, you need to rise up and meet this head on. You need to be the girl I know your dad taught you to be.”

Grant turned to leave. He grabbed the door and opened it a little, “Thank you”, I said. I know he heard me, but he kept on going. We all sat in silence till we heard the front door shut.
