Emerald Eyed Luna novel Nina (by Mrs.Smith) novel Chapter 57

Sighing, I moved to the couch and sat down. I can do this. I was born for this. I spent my life training and preparing for this moment, even if I was unaware of it. My dad must have known this was going to happen soon or later. All those hours of him grilling and pushing me to my limit has lead me to this moment.

‘One day, Nina, you will see how all this is worth it. You will need to control your emotions and do what is right. Dig deep and get back up!’ he yelled at me as I took another hit and was ready to give up. We were training in the forest again. I was about 7 or 8 years old, and dad was teaching me to stand tall but belittling me outfit. I couldn’t take what he said about my pretty shirt, so I ran to him and he pushed me down. I had tears down my face and mud on my new shirt.

Knocking at the door brought me out of my memories. Kelly peaked her head in.

“Can I come in?” She asked nervously.

“Yeah, I am just mentally preparing myself for this.” I said quietly as I rubbed my temples.

“You got this girl, I know you can handle it. If anyone does, it is you.”

“Thanks”

“Here, take this.” Kelly placed a stone in my hand. It was a light pink color, fit perfectly in my palm and was smooth. “I squeeze this and rub it when I need to be focused. It helps me let my frustration out without showing my emotions. Keep it in your pocket and just put your hands in your pocket and rub it.”

She was trying to be helpful and supportive in her own way, so I took it without complaint. “Thank you!”

I heard the door open, and Reed and Wyatt stepped in. “It’s time”, Reed said, looking at Kelly in a loving way. That made my heart happy for her.

“I am going to stay here and wait for you in case I am needed here or I can get to anywhere quickly” Kelly assured me.

“Jeez, you make it sound like I am walking to my death!” I said, teasing. It was kind of like that though. They will be deciding how dangerous I am, I guess. They will be who I am fighting against.

“Do not say that again” Wyatt said as he pinched the bridge of his nose. He looked very stressed, and I could feel it coming off him too.

Walking to him, I grabbed his hand and pulled it away from his face. “I was born for this. I can and will do this and I will be on top at the end. Have some faith in me” I said, halfway trying to assure him, halfway teasing him too. Wyatt just sighed and put his arm around my waist, leading me out. Reed was snickering to himself as he followed us, more on my right.

It was like I had bodyguards as we walked down the halls to the conference room. Each hall seemed to grow in size and become never end. I wonder if this is how people felt as they walked to their death sentence.

Wyatt and Reed stopped in front of a door. I assumed this was it. I could hear breathing and whispering from the other side. They both looked at me like they wanted to say something. I silently shook my head at them. Okay, this is it. Straightening my back, I held my head high. I placed a firm blank expression on it and steadied my heart rate. This is my time to shine.

Reed looked at me and I nodded back. He turned the handle and opened the door. The whispers were instantly shut off as we entered the room. I noticed there was a single wooden conference table set up in the middle. 5 men lined the far side of the table, so they were looking directly at the door when it opened. It would have been intimidating had I not expected it. As we approached the table, I looked at each man as Reed introduced them.

“Starting on the left, this is Mason Ward, Turner Jackson, Grant Wood, Tom Moore and Devin Price. Gentlemen, this is Nina McCoy.” They each nodded and I nodded back. I sat down in my chair, keeping my back straight and my face impassive.

“Let’s get down to business. I don’t want to be here longer than I have to be,” Grant said. My eyes snapped to his, but I kept my emotions out of them. “There have been rumors that you are the last of the original family. Thankfully, a witch provided us with a potion. Once mixed with the blood from someone in the original family, it will turn dark green and smoke. There are more… interesting ways to see if you are of the direct decent but I don’t have time for a show.” That almost peaked my interest. I could feel all eyes on me. Wyatt stood behind me with his hands folded over his chest and Reed was standing guard at the door.

While Grant fished for the potion, another guy, named Turner, I think. He set up what looked like a caldron with a wooden spoon. I had a few moments, so I decided to peak open the doors I built between myself and other people. I started on the left with Mason. He was the skinniest man with muscular arms, but he still looked like he was half of Wyatt. His dark hair was shaggy and slicked over with gel. Every man had a suit on today. Masons was dark grey. I grabbed mason’s door handle and turned it. Just cracking it a little, I felt curiosity and annoyance from him. There was a little happiness in there too and that threw me for a second. What did he have to be happy about right now? That can’t be good for me.

Turner was next. His maroon suit clashed with his blonde stubble of hair and golden yellow eyes. I think it was the tallest as his head was above everyone else’s sitting. He looked to be thicker than the rest too. Opening his door, I got pure evil from him. I slammed that door shut so fast and hard I made my head spin. I had to blink a few times to collect myself. I saw Grant look at me in warning glance.

Shit, I plastered my face again and kept going. Grant was feeling very worried, but I didn’t get any negative emotions from him. Tom was next in a navy-blue suit. His dark brown hair was tied in a bun at the base of his neck like Grant had his. He looked to be around the same build as Grant. Opening his door, I was met with so much jealousy and anger. That isn’t a good combination. Finally, Devin. Devin had black hair that was gelled to the side with a black suit. He kept adjusting his tie like he hated wearing a tie at all. He was feeling uncomfortable and worried. Was he hiding something? Why is he worried?

“Okay Nina,” Grant said, pulling me from my inner dialog “You will slice your hand with this blade and let your blood drip into the caldron. We should see within a few minutes what it will say.”

I kept my face impassive as I grabbed the knife by the handle and, hovering over the caldron, I sliced quickly down my palm. A few drops were dipped into the potion. I placed the knife down and took the cloth Wyatt offered me. Wrapping it around my hand I sat down. However, as soon as I sat down, smoke started erupting from the potion. It began to swirl and rise up!
