Emerald Eyed Luna novel Nina (by Mrs.Smith) novel Chapter 71

It was what seemed like hours before I heard the door unlock. I saw all five council men enter the room. By the time they arrived, Raven had healed my current wounds and was ready for more. We took a healthy dose of some medicine the doctor said would help me heal faster, but I was getting antsy not knowing what was exactly about to come. They all lined up and took their seats directly in front of me. Mason came up to me and took my gag out of my mouth and went back to his seat. I tried to moisten my mouth as best as I could to get the fabric taste out.

Grant signaled everyone to be quiet and he pressed a tape recorder and started recording us.

“This is Grant with the four other council members here to question Nina McCoy about the fraud and money laundering of her pack.”

“Old pack!” I interrupted.

“Silence! You will only speak when spoken to!” Turner said, slapping his hand on the table.

“As I said”, Grant kept going like nothing happened. “We will start with basic questions and go from there”. He paused and looked at his papers before looking at me.

“You dated Damian, future alpha of the Red-Moon pack, correct?” Grant asked.

“Yes”

“You basically grew up with him, right?”

“Yes”

“Your father was the Alpha’s beta, correct?”

“You know this” I said, looking bored. This earned me quiet growls from the men. They don’t like being disrespected by a woman.

“So, you were close to the Alpha and Luna?” Mason asked.

My eyes darted over to him, “No, I wasn’t. They kept business between themselves. I was not privileged to know the workings of the pack”, I said honestly.

“So, you dated Damian for years and you mean to tell us you had no idea they were being fraudulent?” Devin asked this time.

I had to keep my composure from breaking. This man was responsible for all my suffering. “I don’t care what you believe, I am speaking the truth!”

“Let’s head down a different path. After Damian mated with Holly, you deserted your alpha and cut ties with the pack”, Grant asked, his eyes looked cold.

My mouth dropped open, “That is one way to twist the words.”

“So, you admit you deserted your alpha?” Turner pressed.

“I did not desert him, I went on vacation. I did not cut ties to that pack till I found my mate!” I said, getting annoyed.

‘Focus, Nina! Don’t let your emotions in!’ Raven warned.

“Is it, or is it not true, he ordered you to stay but you left anyway?” Mason asked.

Did Damian talk to them? “He threatened to tie me to a bed and rape me, so yes, I went anyway.”

“So, you are accusing your future alpha of attempted rape?” Mason asked.

“I did not accuse him of anything, and he isn’t my alpha. I just told you what he told me.”

“Is it true that you told Holly that she isn’t your friend anymore, resulting in you turning your back on the future Alpha and Luna of your pack?” Devin asked this time.

“Again, he is not my alpha and just because I didn’t want to be her friend doesn’t mean I turned my back on them!”

“So, you are willing to return to that pack?” Grant asked.

“No, I have a home with my mate, who is the future Alpha of another pack, and I will be staying with him and that is where my loyalty lies.”

“If your parents were alive today, do you think they would like this kind of behavior?” Mason asked. I saw Grant glace over at him quickly.

“I believe my parents would be proud of who I am today!”

“You probably spent a lot of time alone with Damian, correct?” Turner asks for the first time speaking up.

“Yes…” I said slowly, not sure where this was headed.

“And in that ‘alone’ time”, Turner put air quotes around alone, “Did you and Damian have intercourse?” He said, smiling.

Fucking creep! “No!”

“Do you know that it is illegal to mate with someone before you turn 18? To make sure you are pure for your mate,” Turner said.

“Okay? Still didn’t have sex with him!”

“And how can we believe you? You already admitted to disobeying your alpha and running away just because your little crush found his mate and then you accuse him of trying to rape you! How are we supposed to believe anything you say? Maybe we need to examine you…physically that is!”

“THE FUCK? In case you forgot, I am a mated and marked woman to an Alpha. An examination wouldn’t tell you shit!”

Mason leaned over and turned the tape recorder off. I think we need to persuade Nina here to start telling the truth!” He said with an evil grin. Grant looked down at his papers. I knew what that meant. Round 1 and probably the easiest ‘punishment’ I will receive.

“I have arranged for someone to bring you food and a few medical supplies. She was enslaved here and has been working for me for years to bring everything down. She will help you heal.” Grant said as he slid open the door to the cell.

“I am already healed.” I said as I reset my finger. MOTHER FUCKER that hurt! “Well, almost. I just didn’t now if there were cameras down here, I needed to continue to play weak.” I said as he drugged me in my cell.

“They are in the hallway but not directly in the cell. Here are the keys I told you about. I took the time to remove this brick.” Grant said as he showed me a brick from the wall that looked normal but there were actually cracks along the mortar. He pulled it out and placed the keys inside the hallow brick and placed it back on the wall. It looked like every other brick there. “They won’t find this if they decide to come get you. That isn’t me.”

“Thanks.” I said, leaning back against the wall as I sat on my cot.

“This is considered day 1. Tomorrow, we will get drinks after the interrogation. That will be your chance to get what you need from his office. You need to get back down here before we return though. On the third day, we will break for lunch and go into town, so that will be your chance to escape. Don’t hesitate to kill, but try to be sneaky. I don’t want the alarm sounded to alarm them. I want you back in your pack before they notice you are gone. I have to go before they get curious.” Grant turned to leave. He shut the door and locked it. Giving me one last glance, he left without saying anything else.

“You did good, Nina,” Raven said to me.

“I am exhausted” I said and laid down, right as I was about to fall asleep. I heard my cell door open. I instantly jerked awake and took a defensive stand.

“Don’t hurt me, please! I am here to help you!” A little girl said. She looked to be around 9-10 years old, dirty hair that was naturally blonde I am sure, brown eyes and scary thin.

I stood up and watched as she laid down food on a tray and medical supplies. “How old are you and how long have you been here?” I asked, sitting down and letting her clean the blood from my body.

As she dipped a rag into the water and rung it out, she spoke, “I am 12 years old. I know I look younger because I am so malnourished. Grant has been helping me quietly for years to stay fed but not bring attention to myself. I arrived here about 4 years ago. My parents were killed in a rogue attack and, since I was too young to go into the trafficking ring, they brought me here. I am supposed to go there once I reach maturity.” She said, frowning.

“I will do my best to get you out of here” I said, and I meant it. No one should live like this.

A sad smile appeared on her face. “Maybe one day I will get out.”

“What is your name?” I asked.

“Mary” she said quietly,

We sat in silence for a while as I ate my food. Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and bread.

“I can’t stay here much longer, they will be looking for me. It is time for me to tend to the kitchen.”

“Thank you for helping me!” I said, giving her a small smile.

“The food is laced with a healing mixture of herbs I found and made. I hope it helps”, Mary said before she stood up and took my empty tray and walked to the door. Before she closed it, she turned and looked at me, “Get some sleep, you will need it.” She said frowning as she shut and locked the door.

I laid down on my cot and closed my eye, instantly falling into darkness.
