“Nina, please tell us what they wanted to question you about.” Reed said softly.
I took a couple of seconds to gather myself. I got a wave of strength sent through me. Looking at Wyatt, I knew he was trying to help me. I gave him a smile and started to speak. “I will try to remember it all. They would ask me questions like, when I was alone with Damian, did we ever talk about finances. I would say no, and they would counter like, how would we believe you? Do you have proof? Before I left, I visited the bank. I needed to get my parents’ money figured out. I was walking out, and Damian came in. Someone told them that they had a meeting together. They started questioning my life after we left. They had information only certain people would know about me.”
“Who is the mole, Nina?”
I didn’t want to say it. I didn’t want to believe it myself. This person completely betrayed me. I looked down and tried to keep the tears at bay.
“Nina?” Wyatt’s mom said, pleading
“Zach”
Wyatt’s mom erupted into tears, his dad was cussing something pretty. Reed’s parents looked confused. “Zach is Nina’s childhood friend from her old pack. He is mated to their other daughter. Kelly’s sister. It is unknown at this time if she is involved in this.”
“EXCUSE ME! DON’T YOU DARE BRING MY DAUGHTER INTO THIS!”
“I am saying we don’t know the extent of everything. They had information from inside our pack, dad. They knew things they shouldn’t have!” Wyatt said.
“They knew about the ‘Three Bandit’s death”, I revealed. I just remember them asking on the second day. Everything was a blur.
“That was kept a secret”, Wyatt said.
“What do we do?” Reed’s dad asked.
“We let things play out as they are. In two days, there will be a massive attack on each location that has ties to the council. We will head to Devin’s last known location and take them out. We need more eyes on Zach and Brooke. That’s where you guys come into play. We need your help getting evidence. Either their innocence or their guilt. Either way, I retrieved deleted emails to the council about our information we have. That is why the shipments have stopped and why we are not sure of their exact location now. Zach wasn’t there when Grant was, so he wouldn’t know Grant was actually helping us. I’ll have to reach out to Grant for confirmation.” Reed said.
“Zach would have known that about the emails. That is why I am not sure if Brooke is in on this or if Zach just wants to be caught. Someone didn’t cover their tracts good, an amateur,” Wyatt said. “That or there is entirely another person. We are not 100% sure, so we need to keep our eyes out.”
“There is only two people who could have told the council about the bank. Zach or Damian. Damian doesn’t have access to our email,” I said sadly. There isn’t anyone else I could imagine it could be.
I slouched against Wyatt and listened as they tried to calm his parents. I must have fallen asleep because next thing I know is the feel of our bedsheets underneath me. I opened my eyes a little and saw Wyatt slipping out of the room. Wyatt’s mom was sitting on the couch reading a book.
“Luna Autumn?” I said, sleepy
I must have really startled her as she jumped a little but smiled and came over to me. “What is it dear? Please just call me Autumn!”
“What did I miss?”
“They discuss strategy mainly. When we leave to attack and our jobs here.”
“I am so sorry about everything.” I said, tearing up. I meant it too.
“No, Nina. None of this is your fault. You are an 18-year-old girl who is being thrown into the role and you have to figure it out. All of you are teenagers still trying to save the world. We will figure out the truth.”
