Encore of the Avenging Muse (Sylvia and Rupert) novel Chapter 631

Tristan stood tall, his expression serious.

“Ms. Winslet, since you’ve laid it all out, I take it you’ve got a plan?”

“I do,” Kay replied with a shrewd little smile.

Three days later.

Sylvia went to the hospital for her follow-up and spotted those five goldfish in Chris’s office.

Aren’t they lively? she thought.

Chris clicked his tongue at the sight. “Want to take one home and fry it up? Maybe with some mashed potatoes?”

Sylvia rolled her eyes. “If you wanted them for dinner, you would’ve eaten them already.”

“I’m not going to hold it against him,” Chris replied casually, flipping through her test results.

Sylvia knew Chris had a soft heart.

While she’d been waiting for Chris to finish rounds earlier, she’d chatted with one of the nurses outside. That’s when she learned Chris had been hassled by a superstitious patient not long ago—Zion had stepped in to help, nearly getting himself stabbed in the process.

Lester had also mentioned that Zion wasn’t just Scott Sanford’s scholarship kid; he was an orphan, and apart from Lester, didn’t really have any friends.

Zion liked to tease Chris and Orson because he felt like they treated him like family.

Honestly, Sylvia thought, Zion’s way of making friends… was kind of a pain.

She was about to laugh when she noticed Chris’s face didn’t look so good.

“What’s wrong? Not healing well?”

Chris set down the report and tried to reassure her. “Your wound’s healing fine, but I’ll be honest, your finger’s not recovering as quickly as I’d hoped. Still, don’t get discouraged. You’re doing better than I first expected. As long as you stick with the treatment, I believe you’ll keep improving.”

Sylvia touched her still-numb fingers.

Chris’s answer wasn’t perfect, but as long as there was a chance, she felt hope.

“I understand,” she said with a relieved sigh.

“Sylvia, actually…”

Chris started to say more, but she cut him off, voice firm.

“Dr. Chris, I’ll probably be leaving for Europe soon. Until then, I don’t want any slip-ups. Please keep this between us.”

“Going abroad… probably for the best.” Chris nodded, then added, “Just promise me you’ll be extra careful with that hand. No more injuries.”

“Got it.”

Sylvia stood to leave, but Chris called her back.
