End of the World? I'm the Boss novel Chapter 437

End Times, thriving with My Beastly Army

Chapter 437 Answers

Sure thing, sure thing

Romulus pulled the hem of his shirt up and wiped his face with casual ease.

I don’t even think I caught your name, sir

The man looked genuinely startled to be asked anything at all.

Oh, me? The name’s Romulus Jackson. Most people just call me Rommie. You’re welcome to do the

same.

Of course, Rommie.Robin nodded.

With Romulus leading the way, the two of them set off in a new direction.

The brief mercy of fresh air didn’t last long. Another wave of stench rolled in before long, thick and gut- turning and utterly relentless.

Robin raised a hand

over her

nose.

The base’s farming plots are set up right behind the communal facilities,” Romulus explained, a little apologetic.

He didn’t need to elaborate further. Robin had already worked it out.

Plants needed nutrients to grow, and in an age of widespread food scarcity, that need had become absolutely critical. Using the base’s waste output as fertilizer was the most logical solution to two problems

at once.

Unpleasant as it was, it made perfect sense.

It was just that the smell was genuinely punishing.

The garbage area had its own particular horror, the thick, sour rot of fermented waste pressed together into something almost physical.

This was a different beast entirely. It was a heavy, swampy reek of methane and decomposition hung in the air so densely that breathing it for more than a few seconds felt like a genuine threat to the stomach.

Here we are,Romulus said.

He stopped well short of the garden and gestured toward it from a respectful distance. The plots are guarded. It’s one of the most critical areas in the whole base, so outsiders aren’t allowed any closer than this.

without

posts Robin looked. Sure enough, a ring of patrol guards circled the garden’s perimeter. Every single one of them wore a mask. The smell would’ve driven anyone else away entirely, but they held their complaint.

The garden was practically the beating heart of Heningford Base. The crops inside were visibly healthy

and robust, and with a population this enormous to feed, that mattered more than almost anything else.

Understood.Robin satd

She stayed where she stood and studied the scene from afar.

There were plenty of people working the plots. None of them were who she was looking for.

Something’s off.

Has he not arrived yet?

She turned it over carefully. She wondered if she had remembered wrong, or if her rebirth had quietly shifted too many things, nudging certain people off the paths they were supposed to walk.

A sharp voice cracked through the air behind her before she could land on an answer. Pick it up! Anyone who slows down and stunts the crop growth is going to answer for it!

Robin turned on instinct.

A fresh wall of stench rolled in ahead of its source.

A tall, broadshouldered man with a dense, heavy beard was hauling a wooden cart in the direction of the garden, straining visibly with every step.

Two grimy plastic buckets sat on the cart’s flat bed, and the source of the smell required absolutely no imagination.

Nobody needed to guess what was inside those buckets.

The man was built like something carved from solid oak, wide and towering. But the effort it was taking him to move that cart didn’t match his frame in the slightest. He looked like he was pulling against something far heavier than his actual load.

Then Robin’s eyes landed on his face.

They lit up slowly, like an ember finally catching hold.

There he is.

She tilted her head toward Romulus. Do you know who that is?

Who?Romulus glanced over automatically. Oh, I don’t know him personally. But I know those guys have the worst of it in the whole base.

The garden’s too big to rely on the facilities alone, so some sections still need manual fertilizing,he continued. They guard the plots and haul the waste both. Even worse off than those of us on garbage detail, honestly.

I see,Robin said quietly.

She turned it over in her mind with slow, deliberate thought.

With his ability, this makes absolutely no sense. Sending him to haul manure is a monumental waste.

In her previous life, having someone like him around had made crop cultivation almost effortless. Fertilizer had practically become an afterthought.

So why is he stuck doing this?

Got it,she said simply.
