Chapter 137 The First Expedition
Charging everyone live points apiece at least helped Robin recover alittle. She wasn’t running a charity. Actually, by her standards, she already was.
A week passed in steady peace. It was the first truly calm week any of them had experienced since the apocalypse began. Living in Shangri–La, some of them even started to fall under the illusion that the apocalypse had never happened, that there were no zombies outside, that life was still the same as before and everyone could go on living in peace. But an illusion was still just an illusion.
A week was long enough for them to get used to life in Shangri–La, but the 50 points each of them had started with were gradually running out.
Sooner or later, they had to face reality. They had to face the zombies. That said, none of them had been idle during the week. They trained every day without fail, and it had only been seven short days, but everyone already looked different. Their energy, their posture, even the way they carried themselves had changed.
So when the time came to face the zombies again, they felt a little more confidence than before. They were no longer as terrified as they had once been.
On Sunday night, Robin had Jessica make a list of everyone who wanted to go out the next day to kill zombies. For the sake of earning points, almost the entire base signed up.
A week ago, they had first arrived here. A week later, they would be facing the zombies again as completely different people.
Early the next morning, everyone in the base gathered outside the gates of Shangri–La. Jessica wanted to go too, but her child was still too young and couldn’t be separated from his mother, so she had no choice but to stay behind.
“Don’t worry. Gray, Ruby, and Snowy will stay behind to guard the place. There are other awakened animals in the zoo too. With them here, nothing else is getting in,” Robin said. She offered reassurance
already burning with fighting spirit, and gave a sharp whistle. casually, then looked at the crowd outside
A thunderous tiger’s roar shook the ground. A massive black–and–white figure came charging down from the back hill, its sleek fur rippling with every stride, and before it even reached them, the crushing
୮ pressure of a king of beasts came rolling over the crowd.
“A tiger! That’s a tiger!”
“Oh my God, Shangri–La’s been keeping a tiger in the back hills this whole time?”
“A wolf was already unbelievable, and now there’s a tiger too? A white tiger?”
Startled cries broke out one after another. Even though they had already spent a week at the zoo, Snowy had never once shown itself in front of the others, so its sudden appearance caused a huge stir.
Snowy stopped in front of Robin, and as for everyone else, he couldn’t even be bothered to spare them a glance. The proud king of beasts lowered his head before her. Robin rubbed its enormous head and patiently instructed,

“Snowy. I’m heading out today, so keep an eye on Shangri–La. If any outsiders come in, bite them to death.
Hearing that, the others couldn’t help looking a little strange. How had the king of beasts somehow been reduced to a guard dog in Robin’s hands?
But Snowy didn’t seem to think there was anything wrong with that at all. He nuzzled the side of Robin’s face affectionately, making soft, spoiled little sounds deep in its throat.
Everyone fell silent. Where was its dignity as king of beasts?
Snowy’s answer was simple. Mommy’s word is law. In front of Mommy, dignity means nothing.
This time, Robin brought Cotton with her. He might only be a goose, but his combat strength was incredibly high and his small size made him easy to carry around making him the most suitable animal companion for the trip.
There was no way she was taking Ruby out. Ruby had gotten so round and plump that sometimes Robin felt a pair of flashy gold rings on her trotters wouldn’t look out of place at all. She had the swagger of the kind of pig that looked ready to smack somebody on sight.
In the apocalypse, the one thing people never lacked was abandoned vehicles. They had pried open more than a dozen cars from the zoo, and soon a sizable convoy was on the move.
The road into the city had already been cleared before, so the trip didn’t waste much time. Their target this time was the central city hospital.
Medicine was a scarce resource no matter when or where. The automatic exchange machine did carry medical supplies, but the prices were outrageous, and it was far better to go out and scavenge them for free.
