As soon as she finished speaking. Robin snapped her fingers too.

Another sphere of lightning burst into existence, this one nearly twice the size of Dane’s. Silver arcs crawled across its surface with sharp, crackling pops, radiating unmistakable menace.
Looking at the lightning sphere that dwarfed his own, Dane couldn’t help coughing lightly to cover his embarrassment.
What was going on? He’d been working hard this whole time, hadn’t he? So why did the gap between him and Robin seem to be getting bigger instead of smaller?
Even the air around them seemed washed in purple. Faced with the matching smiles on Robin and Dane’s faces, the entire Redwood Military Base group was dumbstruck.
Wait Wasn’t it supposed to be rare for elemental users to awaken in the first place? And lightning, with its overwhelming destructive force, was supposed to be even rarer. So why were there two of them standing right here?

“You… what the hell is going on with you people…” Serena Shaw swallowed hard. She couldn’t help glancing nervously at her captain, only to find that his face looked just as ugly.
Robin still wore a smile, but her eyes had gone cold. “We didn’t come looking for trouble. And your captain just said it himself. In the apocalypse, nobody has it easy. If people want supplies, then they take them by their own ability. But if you want to throw your weight around and bully people, then don’t blame me for not being polite.”
The threat in her words was completely undisguised.
“I’ll count to three. If you leave now, you still have time. Three. Two…”
Before she could reach the final number, Serena grew visibly anxious and tugged at her captain’s sleeve.
“Captain…”
That group across from them really didn’t look like people they could beat.
Robin caught the small movement easily and the corner of her mouth lifted. But just as she was about to count the last number, the captain suddenly flung Serena’s hand off him. His arm whipped backward. A flash of fire burst in the air, and then the sharp crack of a gunshot rang out.
“Damn it, anything I set my sights on is mine. I don’t give things up to anyone. Who the hell do you are, threatening me here? Today, not only are these supplies mine, that goose is mine, and so are all of you. We’ll hand you over to the research institute and use you as live test subjects.”

Ever since joining Redwood Military Base, he had always taken pride in his exceptionally rare ability. Because of it, he’d earned admiration, obedience, and the privilege to swagger around the base like he owned the place.
He had never expected that one trip outside would bring him face–to–face with two people who had the exact same ability. And worst of all, that woman’s lightning looked even stronger than his.

The thing he had always considered his greatest point of superiority turned out to be far less special outside. And the way his own subordinates had looked at him just now made him feel as if he’d been slapped clean across the face.
But so what if they had abilities?
Abilities were powerful, sure. But right now, guns still ruled everything.
No one had expected the captain to pull a gun so suddenly. When the shot rang out, everyone froze. Everyone except Dylan.
From the very beginning, his eyes had been locked on the man. Since he came from a military base and seemed to hold a high position there, there was a strong chance he’d be carrying a firearm.
And in that split second, Dylan read his microexpressions and body language, predicted his move, and at the final moment slammed into Robin hard enough to knock her out of the way.
Bang
Robin reacted almost instantly. The bullet struck the polished tile floor, and cracks spread through it like a spiderweb before the round ricocheted off in another direction.
Her eyes narrowed, and her temper flared. Without hesitation, she drew her Desert Eagle.
Bang.
A second gunshot exploded through the floor.
The Desert Eagle’s bullet struck the captain’s round in midair. The two collided, then both ricocheted off the tile. Their final trajectory sent them flying together straight back at the captain.
