Chapter 249 The Ambush
A deep, powerful howl ripped through the forest, and the woods came alive in an instant. Grass and leaves rustled violently, as if something were charging straight toward them at full speed.
“W-what’s that?”
Ella’s eyes widened in shock. Then, in the darkness, a pair of glowing green eyes appeared, and a gray wolf stepped forward into view.
It was Gray. And behind him, more green lights flickered to life in the shadows.
It was a full wolf pack.
Wolves were pack animals, and Gray was clearly the alpha of this pack.
The ground began to shake faintly.
Ten massive brown bears closed in from all directions. After being enhanced by the system, their bodies had grown even larger and bulkier. They loomed in front of the group like solid walls, radiating overwhelming force.
Soon, more animals gathered from every side. Colorful leopards, powerful lions, striped tigers… nearly all of them were top predators.
Even the grass beneath their feet began to stir. Everyone glanced down, only to realize that at some point, huge pythons had already slithered over the ground beneath them.
“No, wait, what’s going on?”
Faced with this scene, everyone was completely stunned.
They had always known they were living inside a zoo, but since moving here, they had never seen so many animals gathered together. Now, almost every single one of them had come out.
What shocked them even more was this. After the animals arrived, none of them made a move. Every beast stopped with Robin at the center, as if silently bowing to her and placing her above them. In that moment, she stood like the undisputed ruler of all beasts.
“I’m going on a long trip.”
Robin spoke calmly, “While I’m gone, I need all of you to help guard this place. Don’t let strangers get close to the base, and don’t let those monsters outside harm anyone here. Understood?”
The animals let out low growls and cries in response.
“Snowy!”
Robin called out.
A white tiger dashed out from the back courtyard. As it pressed itself affectionately against Robin’s arm, its fur was shining with a soft glow.

destination.
“Yeah.”
Robin said, “I know the peaceful life everyone has now wasn’t easy to build. So if you don’t want to come, I won’t force you. But I’m going to the Kapitol no matter what. I’m leaving the morning after tomorrow.”
Ella snapped out of it almost instantly. Without hesitation, she said firmly, “Robin, I’m going with you.”
Robin looked at her, surprised. “You don’t need to answer so quickly. I know this trip will be extremely dangerous. Think it through carefully first. Tell me after you’ve made up your mind.”
“I don’t even need to think about it.”
Ella met her gaze seriously. “I don’t know what everyone else thinks, but from the moment I joined this base, I already decided. Wherever you go, I go.”
Seeing Robin about to speak again, Ella cut her off. “Robin, you don’t need to say anything else. I know what you’re going to say. But I also know that when we were starving and had nowhere to go, you were the one who took us in, gave us food, and gave us shelter.

Ivan’s voice came from outside the car.
Robin’s expression darkened immediately. “Why did you get out?”
Ivan stood outside, looking confused. “We saw your car stopped, so we got out to check…”
“Get back into the car!”
Robin snapped sharply, “Now!”
Ivan had just turned to run back, but it was already too late.

At some point, more than 30 people had rushed onto the empty road and completely surrounded them.

Robin frowned. “How does that even work?”
Erin scratched her cheek, looking a little embarrassed. “Honestly, I don’t even know how it works. I really can’t explain it. But it feels kind of like a polygraph.”
“If someone is telling the truth, I see a green light around them. If they’re lying, I see a red light instead!
Robin was stunned.
Yeah… that really does sound just like a polygraph.
Erin added, “But something feels off. When I look at other people, the light is really clear. But when I look at you, whether it’s red or green, it flashes by super fast, and it’s really faint. I have to focus really hard to catch it. Aunt Robin, do you have some kind of blocker on you or something?”
“What blocker? What are you talking about?”
Robin was speechless.
If she guessed correctly, Erin’s ability was also part of the mental type. She could see those lights because her mental strength was strong.
