End Times, Surviving with My Beastly Army
Chapter 296 The Price of Medicine
+ Pearle
It was a short–hairce girl, standing in the middle of the road with hex arms spread wide, her face set with determination, clearly blocking their path on purpose.
“Robin, what do we do?”
Dane couldn’t help asking, easing off the speed a little.
Robin’s cold voice came through the radio. “Run her over.”
Dane blinked. “What?”
He turned to look, and sure enough, Robin had actually sped up.
The rumble underfoot grew stronger, but the massive vehicles charging toward her didn’t slow down at all.
A flicker of fear hit Sharon, but when she thought of Yvonne’s condition, she forced herself to hold steady, even as her legs threatened to give out, and shouted at the top of her lungs, “Stop! Stop the car!”
Seeing she had no intention of moving, Robin narrowed her eyes.
Finally.
When they were less than three feet from Sharon, the armored vehicle swerved hard and screeched to a stop right in front of her.
Sharon had her eyes squeezed shut, her whole body trembling.
The pressure of something that big barreling straight at you wasn’t something most people could handle.
When she finally opened her eyes, her back was soaked through with sweat, and the wind cut straight through her, cold to the bone.
But she knew she’d won this gamble.
Robin said flatly, “Get out and take a look.”
Dane made a face. “Me?”
“Who else?”
Robin sounded almost amused. “The kid’s got guts, stopping an armored vehicle like that.”
Dane got out without another word.
The man who stepped down from the vehicle looked clean and put–together, carrying a kind of normalcy that hadn’t existed since before the outbreak, making the gap between them painfully obvious.
Sharon felt a flicker of self–consciousness, but it vanished just as fast when she realized she’d probably stopped the right people.

hurried forward and said, almost pleading. “Do you have any fever meds or antibiotics My teacher’s badly hurt and unconscious. We’ve searched everywhere nearby and couldn’t find anything. If her wounds aren’t treated soon she might not make it!
“Teacher?”
Dane glanced around and noticed the school not far ahead.
The stone sign at the gate was smeared with dried blood and rotting scraps, but you could still make out the name.

“Yes, my teacher is seriously injured. Do you have anything for a fever or an infection? If you’re willing to help, I–I’ll do anything you want!”
“Anything?”
Dane echoed without thinking, but the way it sounded made Sharon freeze.
A flash of panic crossed her face, but thinking of Yvonne’s fragile state, she bit her lip and said again, “Anything.”
Dane jumped, waving his hands. “No, no, you’ve got it wrong. That’s not what I meant.”
“Then-”
“Give it to her.”
A clear female voice cut in from the side.
Sharon turned and saw a girl with a high ponytail and sharp, striking features stepping down from the other armored vehicle.
Robin walked straight up to her. They were about the same height, and Robin didn’t look much older, but there was something about her that pressed down on people without trying.
Sharon instinctively took a step back, a tight knot forming in her chest.

Robin dipped her head slightly, looking at her from above. “Your teacher’s hurt, and you need medicine?”
“Yes.”
Sharon swallowed her nerves and nodded. “Do you… have any?”
“We do. Of course we do.”
Robin smiled faintly. “But you understand this is the apocalypse, right? We’re strangers, and medicine is one of the most valuable things there is. You’re asking for something like that. What can you offer in
return?”
