Chapter 356 Making His Pick
Donald felt a stab of pain straight through his chest. “Fine.”
“And… the lightning ability user.”
Lightning abilities were among the rarest in existence, and leveling them up was brutally difficult.
The fact that Dane had reached the level he had spoke volumes about his natural gift.
Three names. Three people. Donald felt every organ in his chest ache at once.

But he had no way out. He gritted his teeth and forced the words out. “Alright. If that’s what you want, Mr. Neel, then we agree.”
Jack finally looked satisfied. “Good. Now, the people we brought out with us aren’t enough to go up against
Robin yet, so we’ll have to wait until we’re back at Vernon Base’s main headquarters and have cleared it with leadership first.
“But to make sure you don’t back out on us, deliver those 700 bags of grain to our side tomorrow.”
Donald’s expression shifted sharply. “Mr. Neel, are you saying you don’t trust us?”
Jack’s expression hovered between a smile and something cold. “I trust you just fine. If I didn’t, I’d be demanding those three people be handed over to Vernon Base right now.”
This was not the same thing at all.
Donald was nearly beside himself with fury.
Jack was the most insufferably domineering per
he’d ever dealt with.
He pushed back anyway. “But those sack haul were taken by Robin herself. We don’t have them right
now…”

“That’s not our problem.”
Jack’s look was flat and frigid. “Robin’s got the Il hundred bags, sure. But your base’s cult of the grain, you’ve still got those, right?”
Donald caught on fast. Jack wanted Tyrant Base to front the grain from their own stores first.
He was furious to his core, but the situation had long since slipped out of his hands. He nodded. “Fine…”
Walking out of Vernon Base’s camp, Donald was burning with barely–contained rage.
Is everyone with the Neel name like this?
Robin and Jack are the same. It feels like the Neels are going to have me in their grip for the rest of my life.
The angrier he got, the faster he walked, and when he passed Redwood Military Base, he caught something in the corner of his eye. Keeping watch outside at this hour was the commander himself.
Chapter 356 Making His Pick
Martin Bax
That stopped him cold. What kind of commander does his own night watch?
Redwood Military Base’s commander is almost unreasonably down–to–earth.

But there Martin sat, right by the campfire, his legs folded neatly beneath him, his eyes barely closed, a faint and imperceptible aura rippling around him like a current no one could name.
His eyes were shut, but Donald knew better. The moment anything stirred around him, Martin would be the first to know.
Thinking about Jack’s insufferable arrogance, Donald’s fury blazed hotter.
He’d been holding it together before, but the comparison was impossible to ignore now, and he found himself wondering how Jack Neel could be called a leader.
He’d been furious already, but watching a commander from Redwood Military Base stand his own watch made something click into place. The decision to work with Vernon Base might have been wrong from the
very start.
It was too late for regret now, but…
Who says we can only align with one faction?
Why not pull Redwood Military Base into this too? Let the two of them tear into each other. Whatever’s left at the end is still a win for my base.
It didn’t matter who comes out on top. Either way, Tyrant Base would profit.
And if both bases grind each other into dust, we can sweep right in and take everything.
Donald’s eyes shifted with quiet calculation. The plan was already taking shape in his head.
He steadied himself, schooled his expression, and walked toward Martin.
Martin had been alert the entire time, not once letting his guard down.
By the time Donald was still seven or eight yards away, Martin’s eyes had already opened, silent as a shadow.
The fire burned low and steady before him. The orange glow carved out one half of his face and left the other half swallowed by darkness, and from within that darkness, a pair of eyes as sharp as a hawk’s fixed themselves on Donald without blinking.
Under that gaze, Donald felt the skin along his back prickle.
