Chapter 368 On a Mission
But the apocalypse didn’t reward novelty–It rewarded killing power. The world was a minefield now, and an ability without combat application was barely better than no ability at all.
Robin’s bluntness cooled Theobold’s excitement considerably. “Then…”
The joy from moments ago dimmed.
“We don’t know your limits yet, and we don’t have the conditions to test them right now,” Robin said, softening just slightly. “But I’ll tell you this. There’s no such thing as a useless ability. Every ability exists for a reason. It all comes down to how you use it. So don’t get discouraged.”
She let that settle, then nodded toward the door. “Go on. Head back.”
She didn’t have any ideas yet for how Theobold’s ability could be applied in practice. But having one at all was better than the alternative.
The siblings left with gratitude written across their faces. A few minutes later, a knock came at Robin’s door.
“Who is it?”
“Ms. Neel.” The voice on the other side was respectful, almost eager. “Rolf sent me. He says there’s a warehouse store about seven miles from here. He’d like to know if you’d be willing to join some of our people on a scouting run tomorrow.”
A brief pause, then the flattery. “Rolf says you’re an elite fighter. With you leading the way, he’s sure the team will come back safe.”
Robin’s eyebrow ticked upward. “What time tomorrow?”
The messenger’s voice brightened at the lack of resistance. “Morning departure. You’d lead the Fifteenth Squad. Rolf figures it’s a good chance to give them some real field experience.”
“Is it just me and the Fifteenth, or is anyone else coming?”
“Rolf says the location isn’t far, and scouts have already checked it out. It’s low–risk. Offe fighter of your caliber is more than enough. No need to trouble anyone else.”
So. They were making their move.

Robin smiled to herself. “Well, if Rolf says so, then I’m happy to follow orders. Send someone to wake me up when it’s time. I like to sleep in.”
“Absolutely! Of course!”
As long as she agreed to go, any request was a small price.
The messenger practically skipped back to deliver the news. Rolf’s face split into a satisfied grin. “Easier than I thought. I’ve already reached Vernon Base and Redwood Military Base by radio. When the time comes, we’ll have quite the show.”

Donald was right beside him, laying it on thick. “Brilliant as always, boss.”
He rubbed his hands together with undisguised glee. “Robin Neel, Robin Neel. Don’t blame us for being ruthless. You brought this on yourself. This is Tyrant Base territory. Doesn’t matter how tough you think you are, you play by our rules here. You’ve got nobody to blame but yourself…”
In the other room, Ella and the rest had already picked up every detail of Tyrant Base’s plan through the walkie–talkie.
Henry’s voice was low and serious. “They’re only sending you. The whole point is to separate you from the rest of us. If something happens out there, they’ll call it an accident and wash their hands.”
Monica let out a sharp, derisive laugh. “Are you kidding? Robin’s going to have an accident? If anyone’s having an accident, it’s Rolf’s people.”
Paul’s tone was more measured, though worry edged through it. “I did some digging this afternoon. Tyrant Base has 18 squads total. Fifteenth Squad is the weakest one. Seven members. Two of them don’t even have abilities. The other five are all low–level. Two strength–types, one wind, one water ability. Elemental on paper, but neither one has any real offensive punch.”
He continued. “The squad leader’s an earth ability user. He’s the strongest of the bunch by a decent margin, but he took a bad injury on a previous mission. One leg’s partially lame. He can barely walk straight, let alone fight.”
“Seven miles isn’t that far, but anything can happen on the road. Sending you out with that crew? They’re basically treating Fifteenth Squad as cannon fodder.”
Ella’s eyes widened. “Paul, that’s impressive. You got all of that in one afternoon?”
