Chapter 370 The Setup
Robin’s gaze drifted between the two cars

Honestly, she didn’t want to ride in either one. They were so far gone she had legitimate doubts they’d make it to the destination. There was a real chance one of them would just disintegrate on the highway.
Forget zombies. They’d die in a car wreck before anything else got the chance.
“That one, I guess.”
After staring at both for longer than should have been necessary and failing to determine which was less terrible, she pointed at the car on the right.
“Got it.” Aldrich’s assignments were quick and decisive. “Nancy, Sonny, Flynn, you three ride with Ms. Neel. Liana, Beaux, Elliott, you’re with me.”
He still didn’t fully trust Robin’s strength. That was obvious from the way he’d loaded every ability user into her vehicle. Robin noticed. She didn’t comment.
The cars lurched forward with a chorus of rattles and clanks, and soon Tyrant Base had disappeared entirely behind them.
Only then did Nancy let the frustration show, her lip jutting out in a pout. “Rolf is such a jerk. I know we’re not as strong as the other squads, but does he have to treat us like this?”
Every mission, Fifteenth Squad got the worst of everything. The worst gear, the worst vehicles, the worst
rations.
And this time they’d been given barely anything at all. Every squad that went out was doing it for the base, bringing back resources, pulling their weight. Treating them like this after all of that was a slap in the face.
“And this time’s even worse than usual.” Nancy shot a disgusted look toward the trunk. “Forget the supplies being light. The bread is literally moldy. Are we supposed to eat that or not?”
Of course they weren’t supposed to eat it. Robin sighed inwardly.
Fifteenth Squad had no idea that Rolf had never intended for any of them to come supplies were a joke.

If he hadn’t been worried about raising suspicion, he probably wouldn’t have given them even the moldy bread. In the apocalypse, if it wasn’t poisonous, it was food.
“Give it a rest,” Sonny said with a sigh of his own. “We’re the weakest squad. That’s just how it is. Sometimes I really don’t get it. We’re all human. How’d the gap get this big?
“Guy like me, I was just a security guard before all this. Now I’ve got an ability, sure, but no real talent for it. Still bottom of the barrel. Guess that’s just my life…”
The car slammed to a stop.
Tires shrieked against asphalt. A deafening clang rocked the frame, and the door buckled inward. A

massive, reeking jaw thrust through the shattered rear window.

A zombie, teeth bared against blackened, rotting gums, shoved its withered arm toward the back seat. Its eyes had dissolved into empty sockets, two gaping holes in a gray–white face. The sight was enough to freeze the blood.
Nancy screamed and snatched up the baseball bat wedged under her feet, driving it straight into the zombie’s open mouth.
Its jaw dislocated with a wet crack, dangling uselessly from one side. Sonny stomped the gas and the car shot forward.
They shook the zombie, but both vehicles rolled to a stop a short distance ahead.
A wall of undead bodies was pouring toward them from every direction, a black tide closing in like floodwater through a broken levee. Within seconds, both wrecks were completely surrounded.
