End Times, Surviving with My Beastly Army
Chapter 458 A Battle of Wits
Seeing a zombie in clothes, on the other hand, was deeply unsettling.
It was like watching an animal dressed up in stolen human clothes.
Clothing meant it had developed at least a rudimentary sense of shame.
Robin didn’t know why, but looking at it stirred something complicated inside her.

She had no idea how far an intelligent zombie could ultimately evolve, but if it had already developed a sense of modesty, then setting aside the nightmarish appearance and the animal- like instincts…
How different was it from a human, really?
A chill crawled up Robin’s spine.
Its appearance was different from other zombies in other ways, too.
Ordinary zombies had dead-white eyes-savage but vacant, devoid of any spark. Dark veins covered their faces and bodies.
But this zombie’s eyes occasionally flickered with a cunning, calculating gleam.
As if schemes and stratagems were churning behind those pupils at all times.
“Trying to run?”
Robin narrowed her eyes, shoved the unsettling thoughts aside, and launched her attack with a crackling sphere of lightning in her palm.
“Hiss!”
The zombie sounded nothing like the hoarse, guttural creatures Robin was used to hearing. It was a sharp, keening cry-almost like a signal.
Robin watched clearly as it feinted left, its body committing to the motion, before twisting right at the last instant.
“Clever little thing.”
She had anticipated the feint and reacted instantly.
The lightning in her hand shifted to an ice spike mid-flight, hurtling toward the zombie’s exposed back.

Finished:
The zombie glanced over its shoulder, and its body contorted in midair with an unnatural, almost impossible twist, narrowly dodging the attack.
It knew this terrain.
Robin understood immediately. Before she’d arrived, this zombie had already mapped every inch of these ruins, which was how it could react so quickly.
Its intelligence was genuinely impressive.
Could it understand speech?
Robin asked, “Do you remember when you became a zombie?”
The zombie’s movement hitched-just for a fraction of a second.
It could understand.
Robin’s expression hardened.
If it could understand human speech, its intelligence might already be at the level of a seven- or eight-year-old child.
But since it hadn’t responded, there was no point wasting more words.
It didn’t matter how smart it was. A zombie was a zombie. It had ceased to be human the moment it turned, and it had orchestrated the swarm that nearly destroyed Heningford Base. Zombies were the enemy of all humanity.
The Violet Reaper materialized in her hand, and the intelligent zombie clearly sensed the weapon’s threat. It turned to flee.
Robin wasn’t about to give it the chance.
Every second this zombie survived was another second of pressure on Ella and the others. She had to end this as fast as possible.
Robin pushed her speed to its absolute limit. The Violet Reaper trailed an arc of deathly purple light as she swept it forward.
The zombie’s danger sense was razor-sharp. It stomped the ground so hard the surface cratered, then launched itself forward with explosive force.
But the Violet Reaper was a weapon with a spirit of its own. It wasn’t about to let prey escape.
An invisible blade of force separated from the scythe’s edge and slashed across the zombie’s

midsection.
“Hiss…”
The zombie let out a piercing shriek and tumbled from the air.
The wound was nearly enough to cut it in half. A deep, gaping trench ran across its waist, leaking streams of blackish-red fluid.
But no matter how grievous the injury, as long as the core was intact, a zombie kept moving.
It hit the ground and scrambled back to its feet without missing a beat.
Knowing full well it couldn’t match Robin in a straight fight, the zombie had no intention of engaging. Its only thought was escape.
“You’ve got a very accurate sense of your own limitations.”
Robin let out a quiet laugh. The Violet Reaper’s test strike had told her everything she needed to know. If even the residual force wave could inflict that kind of damage, this zombie’s defenses were paper-thin.
The zombie fled for its life. Robin pursued relentlessly.
The Violet Reaper lashed out again and again. In a matter of seconds, the zombie’s body was covered in wounds.
But then Robin realized something.
During the chase, they’d traveled far from Heningford Base.
