“Whether we’re overthinking it or not, that owner is definitely not as simple as he looks. We’d better stay alert.” Robin said.

Ella nodded.

Just then, someone knocked on the door.

“It’s me.” the owner’s voice came from outside. “I brought you some food.”

Robin and Ella exchanged a look. Ella got up and opened the door. “Boss, you’re too kind.”

“It’s nothing, really. Don’t feel bad,” the owner said, scratching his head with a simple, honest smile. Then his tone turned a little emotional. “It’s not even anything special. I’m just happy. Knowing there are still other people alive in this world makes me feel at ease. We’re all human. We should help each other. You two just rest well tonight. If you need anything, just call me.”

“Thank you so much.”

Ella took the tray and brought it back inside.

On it were two bowls of instant noodles already prepared–and two unopened packs of bread.

Instant noodles were funny like that. Normally, they tasted just okay. But at times like this, the smell became incredibly tempting, like a real feast.

“Robin, this…” Ella swallowed. “No matter how I look at it, that guy doesn’t seem like a bad person…”

“Better not eat it.”

Robin didn’t even glance at the food.

“Oh.”

Since Robin said so, Ella didn’t argue.

Robin picked a bed near the window, lay down, and closed her eyes.

About an hour later, there was another knock.

“Are you done eating? I came to take the trash…”

Ella sat up straight and looked at the untouched noodles. She whispered, “Robin…”

“Yeah. Something’s definitely off about him,” Robin said with a cold smile. A normal person wouldn’t be

this eager.

“Just a moment,” she called out.

She picked up the two bowls and dumped them under the bed–but in reality, she stored them in her

storage space.

“Sorry to trouble you. We could’ve washed them ourselves…” Ella said as she opened the door.

“It’s no trouble at all.” The owner smiled warmly as he took the bowls. “You two just rest. I’m just happy.”

After closing the door, Ella’s expression turned strange. “Is he a little too happy?”

She had lost count of how many times he said he was “happy” in just a few seconds.

“Hmm… He really does seem happy,” Robin said with a faint smile. “It’s late. Let’s sleep.

“Sleep?” Ella stared at her. “Robin, you can still sleep at a time like this?”

Even if she didn’t want to believe the owner had eaten people, she still felt uneasy.

“Why not?” Robin said calmly. “Didn’t he tell us to rest well? If we don’t, wouldn’t that waste his kindness?”

As she spoke, she shook the dust off the blanket and actually closed her eyes.

Ella couldn’t believe it.

What she admired most about Robin was this calmness. No matter the situation, Robin always stayed steady.

From the moment Ella met her, Robin had stayed at their base, almost untouched by the chaos outside.

But somehow, she acted like someone who had lived through the apocalypse for years.

That only made her more mysterious.

Seeing how calm she was, Ella stopped overthinking. She kicked off her shoes, climbed into bed, and closed her eyes too.

They didn’t know how long they slept. It was already midnight.

Without city lights, the night sky was clear and bright. Under the faint moonlight, the door slowly opened -without a sound.
