Chapter 8 Stockpiling Fruit

This was the first time since her rebirth that Robin had felt this tired. Even though her body felt like it weighed a thousand pounds, she still forced herself to take a quick shower. The moment her head touched the pillow, she fell asleep.
When she woke up the next morning, every muscle in her body ached. But the soreness didn’t bother her. In fact, it felt satisfying–like the kind of pain that comes after a hard workout. It even gave her a strange sense of comfort.
Because she knew she was changing. Step by step, she was becoming stronger.
By August 18, there wasn’t much time left. Robin couldn’t afford to slow down. Before leaving the house that morning, she had already looked up the largest orchard near Klam City.
It was the peak of summer. Even early in the morning, the sunlight already carried a scorching heat.
Since she had called ahead, two workers were waiting outside the orchard when Robin arrived.
In the apocalypse, fruit would become a rare luxury. It tasted good, but more importantly, it provided fiber and vitamins that helped keep the body healthy.
Later, when society slowly began rebuilding, fruit became something only wealthy elites could regularly enjoy.
Knowing Robin was a big buyer, the two workers treated her with great politeness.
“Ms. Neel, I’m Josh West, and this is Peter Cannon,” one of them said with a friendly smile. “But you can call us Peter and Josh.”
Robin skipped the small talk and handed them a list. “These are the fruits and quantities I need.”
The moment they saw the list, both men froze in shock.
Six thousand pounds of apples, pears, cherry tomatoes, kiwis, peaches, and oranges. Three thousand pounds of grapes and green grapes.
And at the very bottom was 80,000 pounds of watermelons.
They knew she was a large client, but they hadn’t imagined an order this large.
The two men exchanged a quick look. “Ms. Neel, are you sure about this?” Peter asked carefully.
“Yes,” Robin said calmly. “Can you get it ready?”

The two workers nodded immediately, worried that such a massive order might slip away. course we can!” “No problem at all!”
“Good.” Robin wrote down an address and handed it to them. “Once everything is packed, deliver it here.”
“Of
It was the address of her warehouse. “I’m ordering a lot,” she added, “but the quality has to be good. If I find damaged or low–quality fruit mixed in, I might refuse to pay the remaining balance. Is that acceptable?”
“Acceptable! Absolutely!”
Peter and Josh nodded quickly. “Ms. Neel, you can trust us,” Peter said firmly. “We run the largest orchard in this city. We’ve been in business for years. If we didn’t operate honestly, we would’ve destroyed our own reputation long ago.”
Robin nodded slightly. “Good. That’s all I needed to hear.”
Robin gave a small smile. “Oh, one more thing. I’d like to buy some fruit tree saplings too. Do you sell those here?”
“Of course we do!” Josh said at once.
“Right this way. All the trees from our orchard are top quality. That’s how we produce so much good fruit. Just tell me how many you need. I promise you’ll be happy with them.”
Robin followed him and soon picked out a large batch of ten–year–old fruit tree saplings, along with plenty of high–quality seeds.
Apple trees, pear trees, orange trees, pomegranate trees, grapevines, and cherry tomato seeds… she bought them all in bulk.
Josh couldn’t stop smiling. He became even more attentive. He personally escorted her to the VIP lounge, where drinks and snacks were served, and the air conditioning was set to a comfortable 78 F.
“Oh, right,” Robin said after a moment. “I also want some tropical fruits–durian, jackfruit, mango, and things like that. They don’t grow around here, but I’m guessing you have suppliers?”
“Absolutely!” Josh replied quickly.
“Ms. Neel, you’ve got great taste. This is the largest orchard in Klam, and plenty of fruit dealers work with us. If you want tropical fruit, I can contact our partners right away. They’ll ship everything by air. It should arrive tomorrow morning at the latest–fresh and ready.”

“Great,” Robin said. “Then I’ll take about 1,000 pounds of durian and 2,000 pounds each of mango, lychee, passion fruit, papaya, and dragon fruit. Is that okay?”
“More than okay!” Josh said as he hurriedly wrote everything down. He quickly called his staff to arrange the orders.
“Ms. Neel, should we send all of this directly to your warehouse as well?”
“Yes.”
The total came to around 400,000 dollars. Normally the tropical fruits would come with extra shipping costs, but Josh waved it off and covered the delivery for free.
Robin paid a deposit and then left the orchard.
While she had been buying the fruit trees earlier, a thought had suddenly come to her. Shangri–La was surrounded by mountains. The area was quiet, hidden, and had plenty of sunlight. It was actually a great place to grow crops.
Something deep inside her stirred at the thought of farming.
Once the thought appeared, she moved right away. After leaving the orchard, Robin went straight to the farmers‘ market. She searched for farmers who had come from nearby rural areas and grew their own vegetables. After agreeing on prices, she bought all the fresh vegetables they had brought with them that day. She also asked for plenty of vegetable seeds.
As for potatoes, she bought over 4,000 pounds.
Robin absolutely loved potatoes. If the world ever ran out of them, she might honestly lose her mind.
Potatoes could be made into almost anything. For simple dishes, you could make hash browns, potato fritters, potato cakes, mashed potatoes, fries, potato chips, and more.
As she walked through the farmers market, Robin also noticed someone selling baby chicks and ducklings. They looked lively and healthy. Without hesitation, she bought every single chick and duckling the seller had.
Next to the man’s feet, a goose was tied to a rope. He saw how generous Robin was and quickly called out to her. “Miss! If you want it, you can take this goose too. I’ll sell it cheap!”
Robin became curious. She crouched down to take a closer look. The moment she got near, the goose suddenly spread its big fan–like wings and lunged at her fiercely.
If its legs hadn’t been tied, it probably would have slammed right into her.
Robin jumped back in surprise. “Huh,” she said, raising an eyebrow. “This one’s pretty fierce.”
